Re: Diatomaceous earth
D E is cheap, you can get it at most feed stores and it can be effective, i've never fed it to my dogs though, it doesn't kill insects and parasites with chemical properties like ivermectin, it cuts the exoskeleton of the insect or parasite and basically bleeds it out or dries it up, i've used it a ...

Re: Daytime Coons?
when i coon hunted I used to have real good luck in marshes just at daylight and even later on into the day, caught a lot in stumps and in cattails, rough walking but it was a blast. I found in this area (which is overrun by coon) you would get into multiples at daybreak as opposed to singles at ...

Re: Wanting a new bear gun
Heart/Lung shots make me cringe, especially if its bayed up or coming out of a tree and the dogs aren't tied back, each to their own though, I just don't like vet bills. Head shots pile them up instantly. I shoot a .444 marlin that I had the barrel cut down to 18 1/2", It has the pistol grip instead ...

Re: FIRE
Haven't experienced that, but a good friend who was on the forest fire crew for years and then did a bit of forestry work said he got caught out in an old burn when a wind storm kicked up and said it was the scariest thing that's ever happened to him, tree's falling all over. I worked logging up in ...

Re: Ontario is screwed up!!!
And its only in certain areas IF it gets voted in by municipal council, sure are leaving a lot of rural people out to dry but at least its a step in the right direction, hopefully we can prove its effective and they give us the real thing back. So much for ecology ruling our game management ...

Re: How many 500# bears
Usually see at least 1 a year from around here, lots of corn and small grains for them to eat and a longer growing season than northern Ontario makes for some big bears, crappy part about hound hunting here is weekend traffic and all the cottagers that come up from the big city, but on the flip side ...

Re: Bear Season, when does your state open??
Chris im down around Peterborough, i hunt about an hr away at the north end of the Kawartha Lakes and into Haliburton County. It has just been a strange year here, and it was necessarily the flooding but when the flooding occurred, early spring and then it got cold again, small ridges and LOTS of ...
