Re: Do everything cur dog
Great answer David, one difference i've found with hounds and lurchers is hounds always want to hunt and the collie crosses sometimes know when hunting is a total wast of time- not lazy they just know. One habit that would drive a hound man wild.

Re: Hunting Speed?

Hunting Speed?
Just curious if anyone ever clocks the speed of a dog during a hunt via basecamp? Open country obviously cover rocks trees etc will slow them way down but i wonder just how fast they run using nose alone?

Re: A treeing Border collie
"desire to get ahead of the game" This may sound a little far fetched but i have seen this habit used with great results especially with two dogs well used to working together. Both dogs see the fox but instead of them both flat out trying to catch it, say like two greyhounds coursing a hare would ...

Re: A treeing Border collie
A friend of mine constantly talked about "the best dog that ever lived" lol He hated collies big time. Made my day when i hunted with the man that bred the dog some 20 years later. Turned out it was half english hound half BC!

Re: A treeing Border collie
Border collie crosses feature in lots of hunting dogs here in the UK- just imagine channeling that obsessive compulsive nature into doing exactly what you want!

Re: Videos?? Which camera?
Got to agree there CB, them bridge cameras (panasonic fz etc) are fantastic- not to bulky to be a nuisance when the main thing is hunting and great zoom capability when the action is way off.

Re: !!! The Ultimate Bobcat Dog...Part 1.5 !!!
Great reading men, pity theres no "like" button for some of the posts. For me the ability for a dog to hunt at speed is impressive and usually the only way to get regular results. http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo301/ands07/rhiw%20to%20canwr%20dog%20fox_zpsf9mabbk3.jpg

Re: Fox Hunting with Lurchers...
I,ve been lucky enough to see a few lurchers that can hunt well and sometimes hunt at a serious pace. It definatly brings more results putting foxes under pressure through the shear speed of the hunt rather than just a long old hunt that suits the fox. Be great to see how a lurcher with a good nose ...
