Re: Drahthaar or Airdale

Update. I did decide to get a GWP from Dakota Wirehair kennels in ND. I got a female and she is coming on 18 months now. I did not go through the "standard" bird dog training routine(although some days I wish I had). She however has an incredible game drive and turned out to be a jam up bird dog at ...

Re: Lion Season In Colorado

I live in Kansas and hunt CO. I spoke with a warden last year with the same questions and it is absolutely ok to run your hounds as long as you not guiding without a permit.

Re: Bloodline recommendations

I have a pocohontas plott straight from Eugene and she would dang sure go the distance with you but I would not count on her doing anything but greeting strangers. Handles like a cow dog though, would be a good hiking partner. I second the drahthaar mentioned above, maybe even a german wirehair ...

Re: Getting started on coon hunting

Coonslayer101,
Try something new. Why don't you tell us how you got your start in hounds and maybe some of us starting out or relatively new could learn something. I started a pup and he trees his own coon when we find one at about a year old. It can be done by someone with little experience. And I ...

Re: International Bobcat Contest

Bon Plott,
What and where did that English dog come out of? Good looking plotts as well. Right now I have one brindle dog and an English that is identical to the one running with you. Thanks

Re: cold nosed plotts

pocohontas plotts. not necessarily big but I have a 2 year old gyp from them that is sure enough houndy looking and has the nose to back it up. I know of another poco bred plott that consistently gets it done on lion and bobbers in CO. Really like mine so far would recommend one from that Eugene ...

Re: Drahthaar or Airdale

I agree. The more I read about the GWP the more I believe exactly what you said.

Re: Drahthaar or Airdale

I've looked into Matt Thom quite a bit and also read I believe everything on this site about all three of these breeds. I really think I am leaning towards a german wirehair at this point. Don't have the fancy testing like the drahthaars and not as likely to be aggressive to other dogs. I'm really ...

Re: Drahthaar or Airdale

Does anyone recommend any breeder/kennels for any these breeds? Wirehairs, drahthaars, or airdales. I think I would be happy with the right dog from any one of these breeds. Just want to get one out of the good lines.

"German wirehair is basically the same dog"-Andyva

I have looked at these as well and the only thing hanging me up is I want to make sure they also have the "fur" drive like Drahthaar has. Or at least comparable.

Re: Drahthaar or Airdale

I agree. I'm leaning more towards the drahthaar. Biggest thing for me at the moment is finding a pup or even started dog available. I really don't want to go through all the testing and most breeders require that is sounds like.

Drahthaar or Airdale

I recently lost my "tag along" hunting dog. He was a heeler and just stayed with me on chases and then joining in at the tree or bay up. Looking to replace him and have been interested in both breeds for some time now. I figured go with something a little more versatile and that would add to the ...

AK Zach. The cross ended up being Bill x Dawn instead of Thunder. Any knowledge on Bill?
