Re: Ruger single 7

I agree 100% I still pack that 327 when lion hunting and I have several other handguns to choose from. 357, 41, 44 special etc. I just really like the idea of it for lions and its a small frame. I didnt really blame my above situation on caliber but more on circumstance. It was just one of those thi...

Re: Ruger single 7

I know this thread is a little old but I've been packing a single 7 for a few years now. I really like the gun and I can shoot it really well. It has taken a lot of game so far from lions to hogs. I love that is made off the small single 6 frame. I carry mine in a shoulder rig and its a very handy l...

Re: Suggestions for a hunting/ranch/kids dog

My lifestyle requires like the ones you are looking for. I have a small place here in Idaho that I run a few cows on. I also trap and call coyotes a lot. I run nothing but curs and I'm very happy with them. The best all around dog I have ever had was 1/2 Mt cur, 1/2 border collie. He was crazy smart...

Re: !!! The Ultimate Bobcat Dog...Part 1.5 !!!

Dan, I have enjoyed reading your posts and find what you are doing very interesting. I set out on a very similar quest some years back and am still playing the game. I started from stock that if I explained here people would laugh. I'm not going to get into why I chose the foundation dogs that I did...

Re: Pup quitting jumped track?

That sounds like what he is doing also. It's weird. I don't plan on running him on any more big cats this year. Might try him again next year on them. Hope he grows out of it but if not I guess he is just a bobcat dog. My buddy used him to fill a couple cat tags in Oregon and said he treed the last ...

Re: Pup quitting jumped track?

That would make sense for sure. I've just never seen it on a lion. I'm going to try not to worry about it. If I were smart I would never put him on another lion track. He has the potential to be a superstar Bob dog. Thanks for the reply

Re: Pup quitting jumped track?

Thanks for the replies fellas. My first thought was maybe he just figured they were more than he could handle by himself. I've seen similar issues with bears but never with a lion. It's got me confused I know that. Its just weird he will smoke the track like he does but then just quit it.

Pup quitting jumped track?

I have a year and a half old pup that is turning out to be an awesome bobcat dog. Truck to tree he will start and finish a bobcat track by himself and he has cought several lately. The problem is he will come back on a lion track. He will start a track and run it fine but will all of a sudden just c...

Re: Boots

The ones I have are the scarpa Fuego. They have lasted longer than any other boot I have ever used. They are very stiff do to how they are built but I love mine

Re: Boots

I've been a wildland firefighter for a long time and guide in the off season. good boots are a must for what I do and I've tried just about all of them. You should look into scarpa boots. I've been in the same pairfor the past 3 seasons and love them

Re: The Clavey River Cur Gang

It looks a lot like a stephens. One of the best cur dogs I've ever been around looked a lot like that one. Do your dogs run real open on a track or are they pretty quiet? The one I had that looked like your pup was the only one out of the litter that didn't make much noise. When he opened the race w...
