Re: Breeding thoughts or Any anecdotal evidence?

If you read the Walk With Wick books, there's some really good info about breeding hounds. In the second book, there's a really good chapter about rating hounds so that breeders have something to look at. What John Wick says seems to make a lot of sense. If people could make a rating system, it ...

Re: Breeding thoughts or Any anecdotal evidence?

Seems to me that it would be great if people could figure out EPDs for hounds. If you could come up with a rating system based on , say , the averages of the litters for nose power, treeing, tracking ability etc. Then breeders could look at those averages and see what cross might give them the best ...

Falconry

Looking into falconry. Anyone had any experience? Not sure if I'd ever do it, but it is an intriguing subject and I think it's worth looking into.

Bobcat Population

Does anyone have any idea of what the population density of bobcats might be in Central SD? Like around the Bad River/White River areas and in between? I can't seem to find any info on the GFP. Not sure if it would be accurate anyhow.

I'd have to agree with David. Swore I saw a long tail there. The head and build really looks like a lion too.

Bluetick or Walker?

Just out of curiosity, I decided to ask for you guys' opinion on this. When I tried to get started, I bought a pup that was supposed to be Blue(he had 2 other litter mates and they were Bluetick). Course, when I got him, I didnt give much thought to his color cause I finally had a hound ...

Re: What makes a good houndsmen?

See, I ride quite a lot of horses. An old friend of mine tells me that you shouldn't be the "boss" of a horse, because even though we don't like to admit it , there are many times horses show themselves to be smarter than us. Rather, you treat it as a team effort, with you being the Captain. I ...

Gascons vs Blueticks?

Hi,
I would like to know what people prefer(gascon or bluetick), why they prefer them and what the
difference between the breeds is. Any info appreciated!
Thanks,
D

Re: Smokey River

If I ever manage to get some hounds, I'll probably be looking for hard hunting, cold-nosed, cat minded dogs. So I am doing some homework.
