Re: RE: Re: Getting started on coon hunting
K_Canterbury, If your young hounds have already caught coons and a few bobcats you definitely have something you can work with into the future. You are rather fortunate to have started out so recently and already have had success with your own dogs that you raised. Most don't see a such a fast turn...

I haven't been able to figure out what coonslayers deal is tried PMing him but guess he likes to make a fool out of me in front of people not sure. Re: RE: Re: Getting started on coon hunting
Nice! Good looking dogs too. I'm glad you are out there getting it done with the dogs and including the wife and kids. What's the breeding behind those dogs if you don't mind me asking? Not many redbones around in my area, that I've ran into anyway. Thank you. They are half sisters and was told the...

Re: RE: Re: Getting started on coon hunting
k_canterbury, I hope your recovering well and getting your hounds into the woods this season. I got into this whole hound thing for similar reasons to you, to teach my children a love of the outdoors. We had our dogs out for the bear season opener and had a blast. I also began to acquire hounds at ...

Re: RE: Re: Getting started on coon hunting
Hey man, I didn't get a chance to read all the post. But I did get a chance to read the first few pages. Jeff and David give solid advice. You can't go wrong with mentors such as them greats. They are true houndsmen legends. Second, don't listen to that other guy. I grew up in Colorado and I have y...

Re: Getting started on coon hunting
Ethertonee. Thank you I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Glad to hear how you started similar to the way I am. My daughter is absolutely in love with the hounds and even if they don't make good hunting dogs the time I get to spend one on one with her is well worth it on weekends she likes ...

Re: RE: Re: Getting started on coon hunting
Wow! I think knucklehead is a understatement! Don't take kids hunting? Why so some complete jackass in Idaho can feel superior to a new guy trying to train a few dogs for his own enjoyment? I'm no coon hunter but I have got my dogs to the point that when I take them out I catch one or two a night.....

Re: RE: Re: Getting started on coon hunting
Mine all are obedience trained also and handle like house pet because thats what they are, but they are hunting dogs first. The one thing I would do if (you are not already) is take them on long walks in the country and allow them to roam out away from you without being corrected. Strap the garmin ...
