Re: Day or night
Coons travel and feed day and night. The best time I’ve hunted was from sundown till midnight. Next best was about 2 hrs before daylight up to about 8:00am.

Re: Stock rack with dog boxes
A few treated 2x4 and a couple of 2x4 horse panels and about 2 hrs work and you should be good to go. I don’t think you would be hauling a wild mustang, just a good trail horse or mule.

Re: Lion Magnets
I have noticed most livestock, wild animals and people travel the same route and that route is usually the easiest way from point A to point B. These paths are traveled from generation to generation unless the land scape changes. If you hunt squirrels very much, they leave their den trees most every ...

Re: Running dogs
Gvbear, a watered down fox dog is not a running fox dog. It doesn’t take very much water to really change a running to something else. If you use pure running dogs with potlickers on a 5 hr race, the purerunning dog is going to be out of the potlicker hearing in 30 min. That is my experience. Most p...

Re: Running dogs
Gvbear, what kind of time did it take on a 20+ mile bear race. From my experience with a mixed pack, I would have a reall strung out pack of dogs when it ended.

Re: Running dogs
Just for conservation for I know very little about bear hunting and nothing about mountain lion. I have bear hunted a hand full of times and killed one bear which was I found was one two many after I finished dressing it out. That smell lasted a while. They do put up a good race though. The people I...

Re: 6 month old training
You need to learn how to hunt alone. Teach the dog basic obedience, name and how to load. Find you a few ditches, creeks or river and start hunting. You can throw out a little corn at each place and that increases the chance of hot coon. Coon dogs are the easiest to train, the really good ones start q...

Re: Running dogs
I think the word running dogs register in the mind of some people as fast. From the videos I’ve seen of people catching bobcats, I think the fastes dogs I’ve seen were the south Texas dogs. The really good bobcat dogs I’ve hunted with in the southeast are not really what I would call fast. The only ...

Re: To Much Drive
I really want my dogs to try until they give out, I can usually tell after a while if they are going to be able to stay up close enough to what ever they are running to make it an enjoyable race. Usually it an old coyote that knows how to widen the distance on a pack of dogs. Those races down here c...

Re: Bobcat dog semen?
If a dog is worth collecting semen on, he should have produced something ( male and female) that has produced something at least as good as he was. That would take a lot of years to know for sure. Breeding good dog that you or hunting at the time to other good dogs has proven best for me.

Re: Bobcat dog semen?
From what is see on video and the conversation I’ve had with dry ground pure tree dog hunters, it the satisfaction of watching a dog taking an extremely old track and working on it. I’m sure the people hunting this way can tell right away about how old the track is and basically know if they have a ...

Re: To Much Drive
It’s like people who do things without thinking and get hurt or killed. Smart people do dumb things every hours of the day and it ends bad sometimes and it ends good sometimes but too much not thinking will get you injured or killed. To much drive in any animal will cause them trouble of some kind. ...

Re: Bobcat hunting in Mississippi
Thanks Goose, but I have all the running grounds I need . About a half day hunt is all I can handle. Two or three times a week and I’m caught up on my dog running. I started something this morning at 4:07 and caught up at 5:22. What ever it was got out too far ahead, started out really good, ended u...
