Re: Looking for paradise
Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada are the only places I can think of off the top of my head you can run both lions and bears. Nevada is very limited on bears.

"I don't know about watered down, the gentleman I spoke of in California said I have one of the few left in Clyde that comes from Matthes and if I were to find any others nowadays, they would be watered down....but I thought I'd throw it out there and take my chances. Clyde came from proven par...

Re: Has it always been this hard?
Your post is a little hard, at least for me, to understand. If I've got the basics right you've got an older Matthes dog (which is watered down if it actually has any Matthes stock in it) that hasn't been hunted much and seen only a few bears? If thats close to correct you don't have a dog worth get...

Re: Kemp hounds on hogs
You might try and get ahold of George Mavrakis. He is on facebook as wild pig hunting guide service. He had or has some Kemp dogs as does a relative of his, Jason. They are in Ca.

I'd try to explain to them that he was stolen and your not responsible for the medical bills or care. I would probably donate something to them if they are decent about returning him. Thats to bad, what a pain in the ass. Side note - a dog like him isn't easy to come by.

Re: Do everything cur dog
A black mouth cur or catahoula is going to be hard to beat for what you want. I don't know anything about her dogs but Redwood Coonhounds on here, and I believe she has a web site, has catahoulas she hunts and breeds.

Re: Hello from SE Idaho
Your doing yourself a dis-service by being set on one color dog, in this case black and tans. I'm sure there are good ones around but will be much harder to find then just solid bred bear dogs of any color, and there are many very close to you. My dogs vastly improved once I got away from choosing b...

Nice looking dog. Somebody's going to get a potential good one at a very reasonable price. A little far for me so good luck with the sale.

Re: Before GPS collars, motor vehicles....
They went on foot, listened to their hounds and followed where they went, just like some people still do today. Most hounds have always had good homing instincts and come back when they're done if no one goes to them.

"I need to read a book called "Hunting Hounds for Dummies 101" or "The American Hound Bible", maybe. "
Yes you do.

Re: Hello from Boise, ID in America!
"Why do hunting hounds seem so exclusive and rare like a Rolls-Royce, Hope Diamond or a Rolex? " There are countless hunting hounds within the area that you are living in and many, many more in Idaho as well as other states. "Another thing, it's a shame that hounding black bear in Cal...

Re: Tieing dogs at the tree
I couple as many as I can so I don't have to carry as many leashes. Often times its hard to find a decent place to tie them so together is better. No idea why anyone would want to tie separately.
