Re: Dalmatians??
and if you read the show fancy crowds books you'll also hear that chihuahuas slept w/ the aztecs & pharoah hounds pissed on the pyramids as they were built. both assertions have been proven wrong by genetic testing. however prior to the genetic testing there were old written records that asserted ...

Re: Dalmatians??
Folks should probably learn their breed histories better before asserting things that are incomplete or simply untrue.
Just because people think of a dog breed in terms of it's last 50 years or last 100 years, that doesn't mean that it's always been that way.
Look at the Rottweiler. My oh my, how ...

Re: Rhodesian Ridgebacks
It all depends.
Here's some of my pups:

This is a complex story. The short version is that the majority of Rhodesian Ridgebacks, from a working-dog perspective, aren't worth their weight in kibble. And I'm not saying that to imply that my dogs are ...

Re: Rhodesia Ridgebacks
I'm not sure who "longshot" is, but I do know Mr Mason. In fact, I was just at his place with a few pot lickers (Ridgebacks and Kemmers) last weekend.
Mr Mason is an awesome houndsman, but he is a Catahoula man mostly... I'd be really surprised if he had any Ridgebacks.

Re: Prejudice and hounds
I wish I had seen this earlier, I would have forwarded to Jack Hayden with the beagler's alliance.
Sad story... all because one guy didn't want to hear the bawling of a few beagles... on public land. One of my favorite lines from Tombstone: "That badge don't make you right."

Re: Rhodesia Ridgebacks
wonder what would have happened to a ridgeback that caught on an african lion?
There are accounts of Ridgebacks that survived tying up with leopards, but a lion? Hardly. That Ridgeback would win the Darwin award. There are accounts of lions casually swatting a dog, the dog landing several feet ...

Re: Working bred Ridgebacks
Ridgebacks were not bred to be large, sight hounds, or catch dogs. They were originally bred to be medium-sized dogs who used their nose to start tracks and bay their game; there are still some breeders loyal to the original intent of the breed...it just takes some effort to find them.
