Re: Hounds for sale

6 year old can catch lion dirt or snow. 3 year old is trailing and at every tree. Has a really cold nose but has not learned how to push a dirt track.

1 1/2 old male has gone to several lions and have coon hunted him since he was 6 months old.

Re: bosque del oso

Check the lion brochure for your units but a lot of units this year did not get an April season. 85, 140, and 851 which includes the bosque has no April season. We have had an April season the past two years but some of the guys have killed to many females and we do not have one this year.

Re: bosque del oso

Quota is nearly full and no April season this year. Private ranches all the way around and they do not allow you to run any of the roads in the state area need horses.

Re: Old lion Tracks

I have hunted with a lot of good dry ground dogs and houndsmen. I can tell u now that most of us want several different dogs in the pack as for as noses. There has been more than one time I can remember a really cold nose dog moving us in a bad spot in the dirt of west Texas and frozen down bared ...

Re: Just curious??

I have shot 3 in Texas with no dogs just saw the cats while we were javelina and muledeer hunting. One of my clients and I 3 years ago saw 6 lions together. Two adult females with 2 subadults each. I have seen several other singles while hunting private ranches in SE Colorado. I also went to Zimbawe ...

Re: 8 lions in ten days gets the pups on a good start

Mike if you are down this way throw a dog or two in the truck. I think in the last week I have cut 18 lion tracks. Going to take just pups tomorrow and hopefully have some fun. Have another hunter coming in right before Christmas.

8 lions in ten days gets the pups on a good start

Bill and I have had quite a week in Colorado. Bill has caught 2 toms and 3 females in the last week. I have been hunting southern colorado and caught 3 toms. We both have had numerous tracks to get the pups started on. I bought two pups from luckyl that are trailing, but might be a little slow on ...

Re: Recent gathering of mountain lion experts and most agree

Is the overall lion population really on the decrease like some of you houndman thank? I will agree that I have hunted lions for over twenty years in the national forest and we are still taking the same number of lions in these quotas. The problems is 20 years ago it was me and a couple of other ...

Re: Will A Lions Claim another Lions Kill

Mike, The big tom that killed the kittens Jays hunter ended up harvesting. It actually killed one of Jays good old dogs that day. It seemed to be a tom in its prime. That southeast corner is privately owned and has a high population of lions in the canyons. I know this year we caught a tom out there ...

Re: Will A Lions Claim another Lions Kill

Brent, I have seen multiple times where a tom and female share a kill. The best one that I have seen was a kill in the snow in Southeast Colorado. There were two adult females with each female having two subadults in tow. They worked out across a cholla flat and split up in the snow. They worked a ...

Re: Illegal outfitting

Dean,
You are lucky to not have any. Outfitters around Canon City to Salida have had a lot of out of state hunters that show up run hunters for 1 to 2 months and say it is all just friends. They did get in trouble last year when a local rancher caught them trespassing.

We have also had problems ...

Re: THINGS YOU LOOK FOR IN A BARE GROUND STRIKE DOG FOR LION

When I hunted the dirt in Texas it seemed like my best strike dogs were the independent ones. When I look at pups or raise a litter I look for the pup that likes to be independent and is always investagating things on there own. A lot of these independent pups will give you gray hair, because they ...
