Re: Freeze branding question(s)

Zach. I did search the forums. I am not quite computer competant but I did not see anything that was specific to those questions. The times for the ears were with dry ice not liquid nitrogen and the times for liquid nitrogen were for the body not the ears :?

Freeze branding question(s)

I am planning on doing some freeze branding. I have irons made by L&H. Any recommendation on how long on the ears? I will be using liquid nitrogen. Also, will I need to cover the ear with alchohol prior to branding if I am using the liquid nitrogen?

Re: Some breeding questions

NMP..that's what we normally do. For some reason that last female we bred we bred her 1x per day for 3 days in a row. She ended up having a c-section. I was wondering if the way she was bred may have resulted in the c-section?

Rod...thanks for the info. I think the skipping a day may be a good ...

Some breeding questions

A few questions: First, What are the optimum days? I have read anywhere from 9-14 but, no one seems to agree? Secondly, what is optimum days to hook them up? Also, on that thought do most of you hook them up once or once for 3 days or once every other day? There are so many schools of thought out ...

Travis..... Go to their web-site and look under the frequent feeder program. They will give you $5.00 off per bag, if you buy 10 or more. Let us know how it works out....might be able to feed them steak cheaper!

Rich,

MBHA will tell you that houndsmen are only resonsible for 12-14% of the bear kill in MI. Where did you see this claim? I would like to see where you got it and get it to MBHA.

Greg,

I'll be darn....that's really neet that you got to come over here for a hunt and rub shoulders with some of the good old timers. Pretty neet how those guys kept in touch without the internet. Those boys didn't need a reality show "I lead a double life on the internet."

As for Marv ...

Greg,

It's interesting you mention Marv Grover. He and his grandson met a tragic end on a bear hunt......very sad. Some of my buddies have still have some of his stuff in their kennels.

Cecil mentioned a bear hunting club im MI. I would suspect that was Carl Johnson's group. He was the father ...

road drags

What type of drags are you guys using? The forest service is getting pretty hard on us dragging roads. We used to use a cultivator-tine drag that would fit into a reese hitch. But, those are very aggressive and we need something to just scratch the road good enough for spotting a track.

second nature. Yeah your right......I've never thought about it that way. I know I've had a great young hound killed on the road while hunting. I believe that it was by a ford. So, I've decided that everytime I see a ford, I am gonna use your logic, and really work it over good with a ball-bat. That ...

I know alot of guys don't like porkies. However, I would bet that porkies make up about 50% of our bobcat's diet. I really dislike it when people randomly kill them, I think they are really hurting the cats.

BTS,

I think that would work very well for you. In you situation I would definately consider the marshall just for is ability to pin-point alone. I would have to say that the maxima gives you an idea were the dogs are in about a 45 degree radius. However, the marshall is about 10 degrees.

If ...

I am currently using both the maxima 5000 and the marshall 4000. First, I would have to say that the marshall collars add at least another 20% to the maxima. It is actually been a bit of a pain to try and re-learn the distance to the dog with the marshall collars. Some friends and I were hunting the ...

K9 condo dog house kits

Has any one had any experience with the K9 condo dog house kits? I wonder how well they hold up? Also, I am not sure the barrel with some straw bedding would be warm enough in the winter temps. It is -30 here today!
