Re: Fisher influence on Bobcats
Norwestern The biologist have been doing den work in the spring for over 20 years, when they go in there is in most years 1-5 ft off snow on the ground, I would assume they have seen tracks in the snow which tells them what killed the cubs, they have also found where fisher have killed lynx. I am no ...

Re: Fisher influence on Bobcats
A fisher is the only predator that the black bear has, When a sow is denned up with a couple cubs it is very easy for a fisher to snatch one in the right situation, most bear cubs are only 4-6 pounds, easy game for a 10-15 pound fisher

Re: Fisher influence on Bobcats
There have been all kinds of different theories around in Maine why cats don't tree. I think a lot of it is the caliber of dog chasing the cat. I seen to tree about a third and bay the rest with very few being shot on the run. Of all the theories around the best explanation I have is that in Maine ...

Re: plotts as bobcat dogs
David, I trained Jet as a pup with Bob Purington, He was a starr mtn. plott, His sister Lucy was the mother to my Suzie dog who just passed and we killed 205 bobcats with. If I remember right Bob sold Jet to the guy in Mn. who has the bobcat pen, and I know he threw alot of pups. He was a small male ...

Re: plotts as bobcat dogs
Plott's are all I run on bobcat here in Maine. We run in very harsh conditions and the thickest woods in the country and the plotts do great, they seem to have a much better foot than walkers or blueticks for the snow and seem a bit tougher for me as I run everyday of the season guiding clients.

Re: Anybody in Maine putting up good numbers or size bears
Bob, there seem's to be more and more of this going on each year. There are many outfitters who do not own a single hound but offer hound hunts. They bring in a bunch of rebels with truck loads of hounds and go at it. That bothers me some as I raise my own dogs. But what can you do. bottom line is ...

Re: Anybody in Maine putting up good numbers or size bears
I guess things are a little different when you do it for a living and run 100-200 bait sites, Every outfitter I have talked to in Maine is saying the same thing. the bears are just not as thick as they use to be. There is a big push in augusta to put blame on the low deer numbers on the bears which ...

Re: Anybody in Maine putting up good numbers or size bears
I had 12 hound hunters and we killed 11 bears. The largest was 390 pounds. The rest of the bears minus one 125 pounder where all 200-300 pound bears. Only one female which makes me very happy. I also try to not run the sows if I know there on a bait, as the state is working on mis-managing our bears ...
