good lead dogs are one in a hunderd; he is a self starter, independent, first out, last back, runs fastest, longest, truest, alot of heart, seldom starts a fight with a fellow hound but always ends them....and when he is not there you feel it.

our deer have preferred runs they use 40% of the time; most of our deer are shot that way; gps helps alot with determining run locations.

we primarily hunt intensively managed timberlands with 20% in creek hardwood buffers in coastal plains and river bottoms (flat to gentle rolling) with carring capacity of 1 deer per 15 acres; and about 10% of the land is in food plots.

we sometimes dump the dogs from truck but depending on hunter ...

Not typical of deer dogs here either; after teaching zeus to blood trail the first six months i was amazed and sent him to blood trailing school for west texas commercial deer camps to see how he would do; the trainer was equally impressed and unsolicited brokered an offer of $5,000; by ...

the liver pups are pretty; the one I kepted at six months age covers over 20 miles per his gps collar in a day hunt with several starts; he usually runs 1-2 hours then returns on his same trail like his pop.

Here are a few updated pictures from this year deer season with Zues, Athena and two of their six month old pups Hercules and 3-Spot. Over two dozen deer were harvested in front of them this year.

Hazel Hill, the red ticking gene being in the smokey river lineage matches up; hercules is now six months old and attached are a few updated pictures; he is as good as his bluetick dad and we harvested several deer in front of him this year; per his gps collar he covers over 25 miles per day; and he ...

Update: my two smokey river blueticks in auburn universities canine detection institute are in phase two of their training which involves living with an inmate in a pentitiary for one year who daily trains the dogs in obedience

Correction.....aubie the tiger is auburn mascot...got mixed with univ of alabama...easier to stick with razorbacks

not everyday a bluetick goes to school with labs....the sires trainer got one also and said pups as intelligent as upper end lab, will be interesting how they perform

thanks cjc, it was a good feeling; if they turn out like their sire (picture attached) they should do well; and if end up in explosive detection will save a few lives. ole south texan must be good.

After qualification two of my bluetick pups from Arkansas were accepted into the elite Auburn University Canine Detection Research Institute. Most of their dogs are Labradors and this is their first blueticks; they specialize in explosive detection for national defense.
