Silent vs open bay vs catch

I've been asked a million times what do I prefer open vs silent bay vs running catch dog my answer is always the same I like dogs that produce hogs and I don't care how they do it. I know of too many people looking for certain bloodlines, papers, or culling dogs because they're open or silent. I ...

Re: how does a hog dog hunt

Thats why I like to have a mixed bag. I like a few like you have, great for roading or hot sign, a good running catchdog to send in to the bay and one or two that will get gone and go find you one no matter what. Don't get hung up on whether they're curs or hounds, I've seen silent short range ...

jagdterriers

Looking again at some jagdterriers, what are the best kennels, bloodlines and breeders out there. Has anyone tried crossing them over other dogs. I've seen some jagdt/birddog and jagdt/leopard crosses, how have these turned out. Thinking about getting one to cross over my walkers and florida curs. I ...

Re: Lady hoggers show??

I don't know the women in the show but I can tell you gary stamper who is the main character in the show is for real and has been hunting hogs here in florida for years and those hunts were done with his own dogs, not sure how the hunts were set up and didnt' witness it but the man is a real hog ...

Re: Grade or Papered (Home grown or not)?

It doesn't matter. The best question to ask is what will this dog do, what will the parents do and what will the grandparents do? Buying strictly off papers will be the quickest way to fill your yard with papered culls that won't get the job done. With that being said my best dog is a papered walker ...

Re: American hoggers

Thats ole gary stamper. He knows how to handle hogs and he's been doing it a long time. He seems to be a natural on the camera. He may still have one of those dogs for sale, I know he sold one of them, the black and white face. I almost bought his older gyp. I believe he's keeping his jj dog. Its ...

Re: Walkers?

I've seen lots of walkers, running walkers, treeing walkers, old line walkers, triggs, julys, and crosses. Almost all the hound breeds have walker mixed in somewhere. All have different traits in general, as with most breeds in my opinion there are a few within each breed that are top notch and most ...

Re: Best Dog

This is the best dog I've ever owned or ever seen in the woods on a hog in 15 yrs, the old man, world champion bred papered treeing walker. Everything he produces is some kind of a hog dog. He is the whole package. You can turn him out on track or cast him. If you put him on a track it will be ...

Re: getting hogs to STOP

I've always said you can catch more hogs with dogs that are straight catch and silent. With that being said you will get a lot more dogs crippled or killed that way. Most people prefer silent bay dogs. On my lease and places where hogs are really dogged a baydog is ok as long as he can stick with ...
