Re: Washburn Walkers

Mike, you need to get Kyle to open up on this subject, he is Gerry's neighbor and ran his dogs for a long time. Gerry's Buford dog was the dog that most impressed me, and is up close in every dog in the line my friend Mike Catron and I have been running since 1995. I think Mike posted a complete ...

Bender had a big pout on today- missing Dixie Daisy, you or mad I went to work instead of hunting. Ended up in Staney doing re-gen and road condition surveys- saw 7 bear ( 2 sows with 2 cubs and one 4 year old unknown) all up high in the blueberries. The LEO's had a blast with their decoy bear ...

I had wolves come in 4 times last year, once to a bear tree. (Had to shoot) I only ran two hounds- it's easy to hear what's going on. I started Bender on bear alone at six months old- he's been with wolves all his life, every time he runs. When wolves come in, he comes in to me. You can hear wolves ...

I'm running two grandsons of Washburn's Buford. They are sons of my old Bender dog, out of Buford and Jolene. Gerry Washburn was nice enough to breed the old Bender dog to his Magic female. My buddy Mike has the old Bender (14 years old, same as my truck and one of my sons) in Arkansas and bred old ...

Hi Scott, We've had the fall kill season all along, what's new is some summertime running without all the kill happy types running around. My season now runs 1 July to 31 December, although 99% of bears are in for the winter by mid- October, and once wolf trapping starts up there's no safe place to ...

Another bear in a tree.

We took the dogs out Sunday for a last hunt while Mike and his brother Curtis were visiting. We had a good strike and turned out the dogs, They had a bear treed in short order, it was almost anticlimactic they had it treed so quickly. here are some photos.

Trees, Bears, and Dogs

Got up Friday morning Sept 5 and worked on chores around the house. My friend Mike and his brother was up visiting so we decided to go on an afternoon bear hunt and get the dogs some exercise. My dog Bender struck, we always try to drive thru a strike and let the dogs work back if needed; sometimes ...

Wolf Season

I voted- I think the best thing is furbearer status or big game status for wolves in all states. I think most people will find wolves much less of a threat than people who shoot dogs, steal dogs or dogs getting run over. I am on wolf ground every single time I hunt, and have had them come in to ...

Re: Washburn Walkers

Is anyone here hunting Washburn's line of walkers? I've had a few in the past. Just curious.

Thanks,
--Bill

I'm running Buford dogs right now- My Bender Jr. dog came from Gerry's out of his Magic bitch and my Bender (son of Buford). I had little Bender here in Alaska all alone, raised as a ...

anyone hunt cats in alaska ?

The only things you can legally run in Alaska are Black bear and snowshoe rabbits. The bear hunting is awesome, and you'll be the only one doing it. I have an old air force buddy in Arkansas who comes up every year, and came twice last year to train his hounds. Both dogs he sent up this summer did ...
