Here's the link to lion distribution in Montana. Miles City is in Custer County. You can see that the lion country is all west of there, not north.

Re: Anybody hunt around or north of miles city MT
I think you need to get some details from your buddy. Regions 6 and 7 cover all of eastern Montana. Region 6 is northeastern Montana and it's largely prairie country. Also find out what "a lot of land" is? In eastern Montana land is usually measured in sections (square miles) and it takes quite a ...

Re: Anybody hunt around or north of miles city MT
Miles City is in Region 7. It's nowhere near District 1 which is in the northwest corner of Montana. I used to hunt antelope north of Miles City and for the most part it is wide open prairie country. Other than a few isolated pockets here and there you aren't likely to find any lions at all in most ...

Ideal Mountain Curs for Lion?
I'm hoping that some of you who have hands on experience with mountain curs can help point me in the right direction. I'm looking to get one or two lion dogs to use back in my home state of Montana in the next few years. I originally started looking at hounds (Plotts in particular) but have started ...

Re: Lion Hunting Plotts?
Might depend on the type of conditions your hunting in. Snow, bare ground, dry ground, etc. I don't know of too many guys catching lion on dry ground with plotts. Maybe they are and you just don't hear about it. Dry ground in New Mexico and Arizona seems to lean toward walker, blue tick, red tick ...

Lion Hunting Plotts?
How many of you guys are using Plotts for lion hunting? I'm trying to convince my father-in-law that we need to get a couple of Plotts for chasing lions around the ranch in Montana. It seems like Walkers are the standard hound around there, but I'm getting an affinity for the Plott Hound based on ...

Plotts in the Rockies?
How many of you guys have Plotts, or know of people who have Plotts in the Rocky Mountain states? I'm looking at getting a couple of dogs primarily for lion hunting and I really like what I'm reading about the Plott Hound. Honestly, a week ago I'd never even heard of a Plott. Where I grew up in ...
