Ok here's a more current shot of the one we thought was a bluetick mix. His daddy was a black lab though. He does get up on our tree though with our redtick (mostly after squirrels because we live in the city, though we have tons of coons in the neighborhood.) I have to get a more current shot of ...

cherry eye is a genetic condition. The surgery is very minor, and really only cosmetic. Cherry eye is not a problem for the dog--just hideous to look at. Its pretty common in hounds. Ask your vet about price, and if he wants to charge over $50, shop around and find a more reasonable vet.

He's staying steady in growth with the black one. They're both about 35 lbs right now, up from 15 when those pics were shot.Emily wrote:I'm thinking that red dog has some basset mixed in. The "bluetick may have some spaniel, setter, pointer or something in the bird dog family mixed in....

There are so many coons in Indiana that you just need to put a half decent dog with some treeing bloodlines anywhere near woods and water and the dog will teach you. You just need to teach it that deer are bad. We shot ten to twenty every night out with lots of den trees. They should call it ...

Hello from Indiana
I joined this forum to see about a dog breed ID, but I find myself fascinated with the posts about hunting dogs. I'm interested in learning more, so, aside from this forum, where would you suggest an absolute beginner start to learn more about this sport? (Is that the right word for it? I apologize ...
