Re: Doesn't anyone breed for locating and treeing these days
I hear you Al. I'm just north of you a ways and a good locate dog seems to be even more rare than a top rig dog. I truly appreciate the late starting dogs and their accuracy but, when a guy loses that 4+yr old dog that does the locating, it makes it impossible to train a pup. I've got two that will ...

Re: Doesn't anyone breed for locating and treeing these days
I would not keep a dog that won't tree either. The dogs I'm talking about will tree, and some of them tree very good with other dogs but I haven't seen a natural locate dog in awhile. Sure, they will locate and tree on lion or bear and even low bobcats but a bobcat high in a hemlock is safe. Eventua...

Doesn't anyone breed for locating and treeing these days?
This year has been rough starting over with pups and its been even rougher because I have not been able to find a locate/tree dog. Everyone I've talked to is either having the same problems or has one or two dogs that will locate that they can't part with. Every add I see says that the dog is great ...

Man, I sure felt bad about that but it sure was funny.
You are welcome back anytime but the dog work will be a LOT different for awhile. As it is now, I'm just happy if none of them crap on the box. lol

Re: A bobcat hunting book
Uh Oh, you met up with Ryan from Pennsyltucky???? He chased dogs around these hills for a few days a couple years back. 8) Ask him about his walk to the first tree. He wasn't too impressed when I found a road that went right to the dogs just about the time he made it up mount son of a gun. :lo...

Re: Who catches every time
Marshall, I'm glad mine don't catch even 50% of the trash they run. Otherwise, I'd wear out two pair of boots per week walkin into the bay ups. hahahha I did keep track for a few months one winter years ago and I caught 45 out of 50 jumped cats. I have no idea how many I trailed and beat around on w...

Re: Need some input
Personally, I don't think the hours matter as long as the dogs get the work they need. I've hunted every day in a week and I think my dogs got dumber because of it yet I've also hunted one or two days in a week and had them on more game than I could have hoped for.(all in the past, of course. The do...

Re: are cat dogs good only in the region there trained in?
Another big thing to consider is hunting style. Oftentimes, people in different regions hunt and act differently around the dogs. The way some start tracks in the snow in the midwest (take em out, pull em to the track and put their nose in it) is the way we break dogs around here. You want to make s...

I've always liked rubber mats on top. The dogs seem to ride it well and its easy to get the poo and pee off of when you hunt idiot pups. lol

Re: Optics for Long Range Competition Shooting
Nightforce, USO, Schmidt and Bender. Don't buy into preset reticles or custom turrets. They are only good for one set of conditions. If the temp, elevation, altitude change, your dope changes so a good MOA or MIL dial is needed.
