Re: another topic
Hey Dan, I bet you wish there were people on here half as crazy about coyote hunting as they are about cat hunting.

Re: when to cull?
Maybe try hunting them with someone elses dogs that you know catch coons. That should tell you alot. If the same thing happens with there dogs, then you have no problems.

Re: Best Bait Setup
Find the best bear habitat around your area i.e. swamps, thick areas, etc. to try and draw the largest number of bears. As far as how you place your bait out, first find out any restrictions in your state, we use cut up hollow stumps with lids and big rocks to try and keep other critters out. The be...

Re: Still getting started, need advice on Tracking system
Clint, there are alot of good trackers out there. Since you're just getting started I would look at getting a used system. You can get a nice used system at a really good price. Then after a few years if you think this (hounds) is what you want to spend all your time and money on you can buy a new s...

Re: FREQ QUESTION
Duke, check with other houndsmen in the area if there are any big TV station antenna or other things that cause interference with a certain freq. We have a TV broadcast antenna by us and with the 216-217 freq if you point the tracking box anywhere towards that antenna all you get is a real bad buzz....

Re: Trail Mouth which do you like ? Bawl mouth or chop mouth?
Hey Mike, I'm BY FAR not one of those guys that thinks they always know what's going on when the hounds are turned loose. I was just saying I get a kick out of it if you have a non houndsman with you that doesn't think you can tell when they jump a critter or tree it just by how they're barking.

Re: At The Tree???
I like a sit back tree dog for two reasons, always has an eye on the game and they will stay out of alot of trouble if you hunt around other peoples growly hounds.
Wish I had some now that would stay back.

Re: Trail Mouth which do you like ? Bawl mouth or chop mouth?
I'm with EVERLAST, longer bawl colder the track, shorter as it heats up, chop on tree. It's fun when you have a buddy along that doesn't hunt much and you can almost do play by play for them. And they think you're making it up, they'll say "you can't tell that just from that damn barking dog.&q...
