Re: Natural Tree or Trained to tree?

Think it was late spring 1969, Leon Elliott stopped by to invite to join he and Bill McSpirett for a bear hunt. He had spent the day trying to kill a bear that was killing sheep on the Dement Ranch, Stated his dogs had bayed the bear several times but he had turned his ankle bad & was unable to ...

Re: Natural Tree or Trained to tree?

Bobcat hunting is the biggest challenge of all the critters I have experienced. Friend & i had ran a bobcat more times than like admit, it was about 10 am or so & don/t think we had found a track after roading all dogs for couple hrs. decided to box for a spell. We had boxed couple dogs up a...

Yes muleman, gave him a very good deal, about half asleep when knocked on my door, ask what I wanted for Deacon, told him 750*00, could tell by look on his face he was surprised. Wrote me a check and then ask how I arrived at that price. Told him I was no longer going to hunt bear and wanted deacon ...

Re: Natural Tree or Trained to tree?

I agree muleman, not had to find natural tree dogs in the coonhound lines. Finding accurate tree dog much more difficult. Here is another true hunting story for you. On this hunting I had two males, Deacon a five year old son of the belle & Chub was a four year old grandson of belle. A couple sh...

Can/t say have had ravens help find bobcat, but can say I have walked away from a tree where
I was unable to find the cat and after getting too far to want to walk back to that tree. I spotted the bobcat in that tree,

An ever better of cougar not being easy to locate, George Horner was a long time well know houndsman in this area told me about an experience. He started track early morning, dogs trailed for hours, when he found a track & knew dogs were backwards. Turned the dogs around, getting late in day whe...

Heck Muleman here is another true story for you. Hunting three dogs. two males had been hunting as a team for some time. I had recently picked up a female that had seen very little hunting she was a littermate to one of those males. Road hunting the two males they started a colder track & I turn...

Re: Deer Hunting With Hounds

Mule man you are hunting with different type dog than most I hunted with here. I have not ran many deer and if they ran one they were punished. A trail hound and couple yard dogs here can catch and kill these black tails. Year or so ago had such combo running deer regular where my home is located, f...

Re: Deer Hunting With Hounds

If it was legal in Oregon, it may be fun to get a couple beagles, smaller type and listen to them run. If I hunted them with the dogs I owned in the past, there would be the worry dogs would bay them up.

Re: Dogs,Dogs,Dogs

Mule man it must be these black tail deer are not as difficult to catch as those whitetails. Not saying all these are easy to catch, but they are much easier than catching coyotes in this country. Now days with all modern equipment much easier to have a pack of broke dogs, Also helps once a hunter h...

Re: Dogs,Dogs,Dogs

Thanks for the answer, i think most of the deer belle ran were started red hot. I don/t think terrain got get much rougher than here where I did most all my hunting. I did get belle broke to a point to where Tom Barnette would say lets just use belle to start we want catch a bear today. But even the...

Re: Dogs,Dogs,Dogs

Perk this opinion of mine has nothing to do with you or anyone/s post, I will use the belle female I wrote about as an example, she would not pull to other dogs most times, she did her own thing, but recall the first time I hunted her with my mentor Clarence Berg/s pack. Dogs started a cold bobcat, ...
