Spinose ear ticks
No not ear mites , Spinose ear ticks. They come from cattle and guess where I've been hunting You got it a cattle ranch. Anyways it took me a $160 BUCKS at the vet to learn about the Spinose ear ticks I'd never heard of them before this. So any of you guys know anything about them or any way to get rid of them or prevent them ? This I know they are a soft body tick that goes strait for the ear but do not attach or suck blood.

Spinose ear ticks
Jeff,
I don't know anything about the tick you described. I use cattle ear tags on my dog collars and have very little problems with ticks.

Re: Spinose ear ticks
Permethrin or Acaricide solution directly into the ear canal, an eye dropper could be used. The ear should be cleaned first, and a follow up treatment at 10 and 21 days later.
Cattle tags do work for cattle.
They are painful and often misdiagnosed, a good flea treatment and heartworm medication with ivermectin are often helpful.
