If you had to choose a new Tracking reciever

this post isn't created to start any pissin matches, but to get everyones opinion as to which reciever They would use if they were unable to purchase the Garmin Tracking system. Things to consider before placing your vote, Terrain;Mountainous, Hilly, lots of timber and underbrush,and lastly the Weather; frequently raining, snow mixed with rain, sometimes freezing but not regularly. Also take into consideration battery life. If there is a choice that I haven't mentioned please name the system. After placing your vote explain why you made the choice you made.

I've used Wildlife for over 20 years and recently purchased a Marshall. Marshall gets the nod without question.

I was in this dilema about 3 months ago. I was torn between a Quick Track, Marshall, Tracker, or Icom.

I settled on the Quick Track 1000. I have handled all three before. I was not super impressed with the Icom. The Tracker was number 3 on this short list. I had handled the Marshall previously, and liked it. The major thing keeping me away from the Marshall was the price, it was just a little over my budget. I also already had a yagi antenna, and figured there was no point in re-inventing the wheel, so I settled on the Quick Track. It has taken some time for me to get used to it, but I really do like the box. I don't necessarily think it is any better or worse than the Tracker or Marshall, but it is right up there, and sure gets the job done. I have actually found it very easy to tune, and I REALLY like the range selector as well as the gain feature. I can tell if a dog is right at the 1 mile mark, or beyond, or even closer, just by messing with the range and gain.

I know they are cheaper. My buddy has the Garmin I was looking for a backup and from what I have been seeing it all seems to be a matter of preference. I am merely looking for a general consensus of what others are using as backups to the Garmin and kept the list short because these are the systems I am looking into.

i have a maxima upgraded to store 100 collars and it will track 5000 collars so my experience tells me the tracker is more versitile and well with that many collars trackable makes buying used collars easier and likely cheaper as well. also if this is just a back up then u may find some hunters that will allow you to borrow collars and track them as my system is usable with these freq. 116.000 through 220.999 and that is hard to matchwith any of the others in this list.
