Smithhurst B&t
My father has some Smithhursts bred dogs on both sides and i have not hunted them much as they are his dogs . But he getting to the point that he can not them himself and I will start with them or sell them I hunt in the southwest only for lions just was wanting if anybody has info on this line of dog thanks Mike..

what time frame did they come from ?how are they colored and marked ?the smithhurst hounds are pretty recognizable. I have hunted with a few that were good lion dogs but haven't seen any in a while I'd really like to see peds and some pics if you could post them

Pegleg thanks for the response i do have all the reg papers on these dogs I will try to post some photos soon I hunted one of them this week end and she trailed with the other dogs and treed good Thanks Mike..

Fred Smith who started the Smithurst line was a real dog man and hunter. He was not narrow minded and he liked dogs that could get it done. Back in the days of the $50,000. Futurity hunts on the black and tans old Hard Rock owned by Fred and Big Wheel owned by Ed Abel also of Oklahoma made a big name for themselves.
The real Smithhurst line however was built around Smithurst Savage and Fred made no bones about it This was a single registered dog that had July running dogs and some Pit Bull in him as well. Not sure why but they worked hard and dang sure had some grit. A friend and I had a littermate to Savage we got from Fred. We called her Molly and we sold her to the Welty's down near Dusty New Mexico many years ago. Never did hear if they kept any of this going.

Thanks Mike these dogs look like they go back to the dogs that you were talking about they all are linebred Smithhursts dogs infact the male reg name is Fred just havent heard much about these dogs as for grit they are very gritty maybe to much if there is such a thing they are a little growly and single minded but are holding well here in the southwest Thanks again Mike Pearce
