I know there is allot of talk on cameron, vaughn, sugar creek, utchman and hammer and allot of it is all about hunting cats whether it be bobcats or mountain lions and its all about being the coldest nosed. Well i hunt coyotes in PA in the snow and am in the process of getting me some pups and i would like to be able to drop the tailgate and let the hounds run on most of the tracks i cut whether they be from that day before or that nights. Do you believe that any of those breeds would perform just as well on coyotes as they do on cats? Is there that much of a difference between the scent of a yote to a cat, strong wise?

First I don't run yotes. However we have tons of them. If I was after them, I don't think I'd need a super cold nosed dog because they run the roads and keep to their area, so you shouldn't have trouble finding it fresher. I am a fan of the blueticks, but I think a trigg would be better suited because cold nose and treeing is not required. Almost like a running dog is a natural fit. I would be interested to hear from bluetick coyote hunters to see how they do. Seems like everyone either takes a running dog and tries to find one with a really cold nose to grub out a cat track or a cold nosed dog that can really run. Cat hunting is hard because you need to find a dog that has abilities that tend to be found in two different types of dog. That's why some hunt mixed packs or crosses. Good luck. I run yotes in se MN with blueticks and bluetick/English and just love it! The dogs are plenty fast enough and are much better to listen to!
