Best Blues on bear

Postby LukeS » Sun Jun 13, 2010 11:40 pm

Looking for opinions on what the best line of blue dogs is for bears. Mostly focused on the ones with the most gritt to hang with a tuff bear. Not interested in if they have extreme cold noses or not. Track speed would be good, but # 1 quality Im looking for is gritt. Dogs that absolutely wont leave a bear on the ground, or in a tree, by themselves or with a pack, & show these qualities at a young age. P.R. dogs would be nice, but dosent have to be. Would even consider crossbreeds if they had a strong blue foundation & were the right kind. I live in Ontario so I am more interested in what can be found in the eastern half of the country, but would like to hear about lines from anywhere that might possess these qualities. All opinions welcome. Thanks.

I would have to say Van Johnson's blues. You don't have to compromise nose, tree, speed or gritt. You get the whole package

I have my own line of bear hounds that I have been refining for a few years now.
These hounds are huge and real real gritty! my male right now is about 120 lbs and about 31 inches at the shoulders. He is hands down the fastes hound i have ever had. I have bred Great dane into them and it realy realy has worked well!! I have a litter of pups that should be here in a few months that are exactly what I have been aiming for. They have the perfect amout of every line in them. They have a little gascon and a little cameron and greatdane. My goal was to have long runnin legs, nose and grit. They are blue and black. These pups are 10 months in this picture

impressive looking dogs, an interesting cross indeed. back home on the farm we had a neighbor that used a great dane on rabbits and coyotes. only seen it hunt once but it seemed to have plenty of speed and grit. he would call in coyotes and use the dog as a decoy once the coyote came into sight the dane would chase them down. he crossed it onto an akbah not sure of the result as i dont make it home much anymore.
never doubt the dogs
