PRW-In a nut shell, it is my understanding that Elbert Vaughn was the founder, among others, of the bluetick breed in 1943 and hunted and bred dogs for 50 or more years and had the foundation stock of 90 or more % of the entire current bluetick world including Smokey River, Lee Bros., Uchtman, Grant, Ozark, Hammer, Jet, Bragg, Cameron, Minisink, Ormiston, ect. Hope this helps.

Mr. Streepy, I don't think you looked hard enough, but I understand your point.

The hound would is exactly like the horse world, and the car world, and the house world, and the cow world, etc. There are a lot of scammers even when you're talking about successful people. The mighty dollar brings out the worst in people, esp. desperate people. The buyer beware philosophy is a good one to live by. Instant gratification is the downfall of most, mixed in with lack of knowledge. I probably couldn't sell you a $2000 rope horse for $10,000, (maybe $3000  ). My point being, you know your business as far as a going or finished rope horse, I'm guessing. With pups and green horses, it is always a crap shoot, because you never know what the success of a finished product will be esp. if you're not a long time trainer, but it is in my opinion that going with a line that is tried and has a certain level of success that you'll have as good of odds or better than from animals that haven't proved themselves and if you have training prowess, then the odds go way up.

What I have found is that not everyone runs/ropes the same as the next guy. I have never been on a horse that someone eles owns that I like 100%. same with dogs I don't know if I could get a "finished" dog from someone that would run the same for me. I would rather put the time and effort into messing up a good dog . Not saying there isn't a dog out there that is perfect for me but at the same time I don't have $2,500 either. That is why I have started to look into blood lines.

I have hunted with a fare share of dogs that had cameron blood in them and in my opion the best ones have been the ones with a little bit of something else crossed into them. Most had smokey river or old hammer blood and it seem like they were more well balenced than the full camerons I have hunted with. If i was going to buy a cameron pup I would go to someone like Steve or Jim.

very very good post i wasnt trying to call anyone a liar just stated what he told me! And i do own a camron female that will flat smoke a cat. Even jason sorenson likes her! I dont know a lot about the blood lines when i was looking for one i first wanted one that was out of good parents and then looked for the build that i liked, more a small compact dog that can move. I ended up getting one from Jim Harrell he had a couple of females that werent huge. I think that a lot of the camron guys are doing the same thing cause it is hard to get a female and not just breed her and get pups and sell them for 500 and make some good cash. Takes a lot of money and time to see what they are for reall! Just because on guy doesnt like them doesnt mean the next one wont but the camrons need to be culled extremely hard and once u get the bad ones out they arnt to bad of dogs i went through 4 and got a female that is a lil over a year old and seen about 20 cats this year but i had to send her out to get the cats she needed see if she was going to make the cut and she has i actually have some frozen semon that i bought from Jim Brundrick that was out of the best male he said he had and she will be bred when she comes in agian. I have looked at your pups a lot Cobalt but just seems like every time u have some i have pups around and am sick of them maby one of these days i can try one! I dont think it is the dogs most of the time just not hunted enough!!!

I think there are a lot of good posts on this board.. For the record, I have heard & seen many good things from Jim's dogs. I grew up pretty close to him, and he has always had a good reputation as a breeder and hound man. In fact, I can't think of a single negative thing that I've heard from someone who actually owned a dog from him which is saying alot.

Gene- Interesting hearing about your female. Sent you a PM.

Its just nice to see a post were people can say there opinion and dont get there head bit off and told there are stupid. Raising hounds or horses u are not going to make everyone happy and thats the way it is. Jim was very good to me and i finally got a camron that would hunt and wasnt ill, I did get a camron male from liontracker that was good and not ill but he got ran over. We just missed Rebas heat at the beginning of January so she is getting hunted till she comes back in then she will be bred. Powderhorn i will give u a call and get your name down. If u go to forum photo gallerie under trashy mustang hounds Jason just put up some new pics of reba and there is some older ones of her in there. Thanks all for all the interest!!

Yup, I am getting ready for the 2012 bear season. I have to stay a year ahead or I wont have enough dogs. And I can't buy them from Jason because you keep buying all of them.

IMO, they are way overrated. You tell everyone long enough how great something is, eventually people start to think that said item is the greatest. Goooood salesmanship!
I am not trying to bash the breed, I just think there are plenty of others out there better. For big game I lean towards the grade lines poeple have created, the hybrid vigor of two different breeds is the ticket IMO.
I have a dog that is half cameron and she is a nice dog, but if I were to intentionally search out a "Cameron " I think I 'd lean toward the Crazy Cascade dogs in OR. I've heard that guy IS a hunter, and for sure his dogs are well put together. When I think of damn good looking hounds, these are the ones that pop up in my mind. My opinion don't really mean shit, but you got it anyway.
