coldest nosed line?

This has probably been asked 100 times here before but what line of Blue Dogs would you say has the coldest nose. not boo hoo & babble all night but actually move a cold track

Most camerons ive been around i would classify as meduim nosed, better bear dogs than lion but I havnt been around a whole lot of them.

Sugar creeks I have owned have been a little colder nosed.

Blueticks are my favorite breed and ive owned alot of them and most made great dogs but none of the registered blues ive been around have been really cold nosed.

Any dirt lion hunters have any true blue cold trailers???????

I have told him along with others and if you notice he is making very good posts. So why do you keep stirring the pot? I don't know if you have noticed but he coments alot on others post and says alot of good. I never notice you or your buddy post a good coment on any other post other than that to boost your own stuff. Kind of Like Mike Leonard never posts on anything but nance or South west dry ground hounds or his own posts. It would be nice if you could give a complement to your fellow houndsmen since you are so great.
Some day you will learn that there are alot of good hounds in every breed and yours are not the only ones that can catch game be it in the snow dirt or dust.
Like I said before to you..The man that is not affraid to hunt with someone else will learn exactly what he has and if he only hunts with himself, he will never know what he has. Dogs are like race cars, just when you think you have the best someone is going to whoop you and whoop you bad.

Sorry Waylon for robbing your post. The coldest nosed bluetick I ever owned was a Smokey river Blue Diamond Jim Dog. I ran straight blueticks for about 10 years. tried a bunch of different stuff but have liked that about the best. I dont' think you can get it anywhere close now, but I could be wrong.

Whew, now that we have that out of the way...

Big Mike, I'm with you on the Camerons. There are some though, that are way more cat bred and have the dryground type of nose and mentality. I own some that will qualify.

As for the Sugar Creek, what ones have you owned and been around? Which did you like the most? My old female was 3/4 SC, 1/8 Ozark Mtn and 1/8 Smokey River. Devin the SR was heavy in Diamond Jim and his immediate famliy. Talk about a cold nosed, cat crazy, hard tree dog, now she was the kind for sure.

These were and are, the coldest nosed blues that I ever seen, been around or heard of.

I didn't own the dog but 4 years ago I hunted with one that was just under 1/2 SC, had some Cameron, Vaughn and Hammer blood in him. He was owned by a guy in Cheyenne, the dog had an unreal cold nose and would beat out an old cat track in the dirt all day till he got 'er jumped. It really was an impressive hound.

The sugar creeks I owned/been around werent papered, so i cant say for sure they were sugar creek only what i was told. They were nice dogs but werent as cold of nose as ive seen

I have had three Hammer bred blues, only 1 made a dog. The one that did is a great dog but I would classify him as medium nosed.

I had a Mountain Music bred out that was the best bear dog I ever owned, but no nose for the lions.

Some friends got 3 blues out of Utah from Buchanon(sp) stock. They are coming 2 years, showing some promise, but need another year before they can really judge their nose.

Has anybody tried any of the big old fashion blues on lions in the desert?????

Wow I would love to see these Camerons you guys keep talking about. I have had 15 in the last year and they were all culled and I mean culled. Either my expectations of a dog are alot higher than yours or I have had extremly bad luck with them. I have a Utchman bred dog top and bottom and he will sit and goof around on an old track and I guess some guys would get excited about him saying what a cold nose he has but he would never catch it. In my oppinion there is alot more to a dog than a cold nose, you can have a very cold nosed dog and it can sit and booger bark a track and never move it or move it so slow you can walk with the dog, you will never catch that animal.
A dog has to have a brain and by that I mean , It has to be smart enough to push past a bad spot or a spot he is having trouble with and pick it back up in a better spot(not the owner helping him), that dog is going to catch game but most people would concider the dog that just sits on the bad spot barking and carrying on, the colder nosed dog, and that is fine but I will take the other dog. Don't get me wrong I love dog work more than anyone but if a dog can't put a end to the track more than not, in my opinion that dog is not worth a bullet. He is only accomplishing half of his task.

Hey Devin have you tried any blue dogs from Les Mitchells kennel ? He is super high on Diamond Jim and has been for thirty or more years.I think he has more Jim in his dogs than probably any other big game hunter there is.I have a young dog right now that is a Cameron/Diamond Jim dog and I think is going to be super special in the nose department.And I don't mean booing around.He flat gets a track ironed out and moving in a hurry and he is only 14 months old.I have had him leave some pretty cold nosed seasoned dogs in the dust.I'm curious where you got those 15 Cameron dogs from because I want to make sure I don't get any from there ? I've got a couple Camerons that I think you would probably like and so does a good friend of mine (Cobalt).He has a couple that any man would be proud to own.I'm not saying that they would be any better than your dogs just that I think you would like them.
