I just recently recieved a 5 month old bluetick female from a buddy. i plan on running her on bear and coyotes. She is out of heavy Smokey River breeding. Both parents are excellent cold nose cat dogs. I was wondering if any one has had a smokey river blue and how their noses are and how gritty they are on big game?

Howdy there, I had a bluetick that was out of Smokey river peaches or her line came from that. She treed her very own bear without any help at 12 months old. Then She bayed a lion up in the rocks with two other dogs at 12 months old. The dog taught me something about hunting with hounds. She was a absolute natural, Hope to get another one like her someday. She was strikeing bear off the rig at a year and half old. She jumped over the side of my rig and broke her neck, Dead at two half years old. That was the toughest day I ever had.

Thanks for they input. This is the second time this cross was made. The first cross was a proven cross. I heard good reports on all of the pups from the first cross. They were all naturals on bear and coyotes. So i hope this one turns out.

aint that how it kinda works? you could take a cull dog and road it down i-5 during rush hour traffic and if you lost it someone would bring it back to you unharmed, than have your best dog get cancer or something at 3 years old. maybe we should be breeding the culls they have longevity and they are very fertile?? :D

Just curious if there is anyone out there who can tell me how I could get a S.R. blue. Had one as a kid and would love to have another but can't find the kennel. Any help would be appreciated. Don't even know if they are still around?

I had a SR blue from Terry Zink in Marion MT. Good track dog, FAST, well built and had a good nose. Used her on lion only - no bear.

i have a smokey river/ utchman, he is a hell of a bear dog, great nose, fast, and a ton of grit.
i also have a smokey river/ ucthman/ vaughn, he is only a little over a year old but is turning out to be a great bear dog also, fast, tons of grit, maybe even a better nose than my other. time will tell, he is still a pup. deffinitely no complaints about either dog.
