Just wondering what you thought. This doesn't pertain to just blue dogs but who has the right to say they have and ORIGINAL strain of blueticks?

Define "original".. In my opinion, this is nearly impossible to consider without knowing what exactly "original" is... Is rocky-road an "original" icecream flavor? Or are no new flavors original since they all came from vanilla in the first-place?

Key word is strain I think when you take a dog that was bred to run coon. And bred and cull for 20 plus years. To excell at the game you run. That is your strain. Look at the Trigg,Running Walker & July They are Strains of the walker

by original are you referring to the first bluetick hounds? I didn't read the question that way. I would define original as the first group that deviated from their direct ancestors in one or more very obvious ways. and bred true to this variance until a outcross was made. this has a small bearing on a topic i have been thinking about. cameron hounds, my hat is off to the man for creating or maintaining these hounds however you look at it. they have a lot of qualities I find pleasing. but I can't describe them as true cat dogs as a strain. I know this will cause hate mail etc. but most aren't. everyone I've hunted behind preferred bear/coon to cat. I am not saying they wont make good cat dogs but they will pick a bear trail if given their choice in my experience. I haven't hunted behind a lot of them but the few i have had gave that appearance. maybe there is a few in there that prefer cat from the start and if thats the case I'd love them. any way the first breeder who got blue dogs that preferred tree game to running game deer etc. started the orginal generic blue strain. but history tells us this trait was breed into all the hounds ( - plotts) before they were divided into colors then further changed physically and in some other traits. so maybe it belongs to the first pot hunter who got his foxhound to tree and bred for that trait.

I would have to say that the blue dogs on my place are "ORIGINAL" Hennessy hounds. Oh sure I have taken the genetics from Cameron and Caseys Hurrican and others, but I put them in a bowl and mixed them up to come of with my own original recipe.
I have never fried chicken and served it a KFC bucket and tried to pass it off as the Colonel's. If you expect KFC then buy it directly from the Colonel.
Wow I must be hungry.
