I've hunted all breeds and several crosses on bear.I personally like heavy Smokey River on bear. They seen to be speedy. The Camerons I've had have been slower on track but colder nosed.I think some of the best I've hunted were Cameron X Smokey River.
The absolute fastest dogs I've hunted were Smokey River Bluetick X Finley River Walker

I have some pure camerons and cameron x smokey river and cameron x buzz anderson and they have enough speed on bear. Speed is not always the same . Each dog and each breed are not the same. I hunt with guys who run hounds of every color and with gps on them theres never out run mine and mine dont out run theres . The biggest thing is get the dogs in shape for long hard runners. Road the piss out of them get them in the best shape they can be in. You never see a 400lb man run a mile in 6 min.

Ill be honest, Camerons dont got all the speed in the world and unless crossed to something they will tend to drop back a little ways on bears. I have seen some fast Camerons that can keep up with just about everything but it's kind of rare. I do have a lipper-nailor/Cameron dog that is fast but for the most part they just dont have the speed. One thing they dont lack in is grit and nose though. Im a big Cameron guy too but you got to be honest with yourself.

I have camerons and one smokey river, walker and walker cross. On a mean bear its cameron all the way. The walker is fastest, but not near as gritty. The smokey river is good too, but not leading. Walker cross and smokey river are better on the tree. I think it all depends on the individual dog.

Re: blue tick speed on bear compared to english and walker
These days I think you can find faster dogs in most any of the bluetick lines, it's a matter of finding the right crosses. Apparently I have been lucky in finding the faster end of the Cameron line (IMO) because of the Sm. Riv. dogs I own and have run with (and for that matter all breeds and lines), the Camerons have more speed along with excellent endurance while the Sm. Riv. dogs have more on the ground nose power. Even though there is a world of difference in looks between the two, they both do a good job in all departments as well as with the Hammer line and the Uchtman line. And there are also duds in all lines.
As far as comaring them with english and walker dogs, I've seen the fewest amount of english dogs with excellent speed, but there are some sure enough fast ones, no doubt. As with the walkers, they are probably faster on average (FOOT SPEED) than the blueticks as a whole, but there is huge diversity in the walker world so an out and out comparison is silly. These days I would say a more accurate comparison would be between specific lines and even better, specific kennels.
