Mike UKC does have a program where you take a hound out by its self with a judge not just a buddy on a two hour hunt to see if your hound can track and tree by its self. There are 3 degrees that it gets. It is called HTX program mainly set up for pleasure hunters and others that did not want to get into the politics and hype of the hunts but can still get a title and degrees with out entering competition. Go to UKC dogs and check it out. In the long run I think this will mean more the the nite and grnite titles.

Longwalker I have hunted in comp against Bill, Dean, Jeramiah with their lines of dogs. I am B&T man as you and Paco know. I saw the good and bads for the most part there were a lot of good. The dogs could flat get in the woods and tree. Fast track driving hard and loud tree dogs. All that I hunted with were big houndy dogs even the 1 female I hunted against. Every time I faced one in comp I knew my hound had to be on his best game. They could definately hold pressure on tree and give pressure too. I never saw one slick tree once, every time they pulled up tree they had the meat. I only hunted against Bill a couple of times, Dean and Jeramiah several times over several years. Was impressed every time I hunted with them. From what I heard and saw on biggame they are the real deal too. Give me a call talk to you more.

treedog/boone, thanks for the information. i was not looking from my end. mine don't tree, adios.... i was thinking along the lines of the department of motor vehicles for hounds. know how to drive a car before being issued a license. know how to hunt and tree before being ukc registered.it would never fly, i hunted a prominent strain of white cloud dogs from north carolina. the breeder in that state told me bears there don't climb trees. so if i had any dogs that bayed solid and didn't tree to send them to him and he would hunt them and BREED THEM! it comes down to your own expectations of what a hound should represent. i meet those who aren't honest with themselves, little alone with you or me.besides even if that were true, i would like to reserve the tree in a hound for the odd one i suckered up a tree. bill. i kinda thought that was what bob was up to having a weak link over time,as most of the white cloud crossed to those nance never treed. i'm not talking lightly, they never treed. coupled with a breeder of white cloud dogs thats not breeding for tree power either you have nothing. at least bob is smart enough to recognize this and correct it. the other guy keeps repeating history.

I appreciate everyones comments on this thread. It is always refreshing to hear different opinions and to be able to have a discussion without trashing another mans hounds.

I have a year old Tree Blaster son that is turning out to be a good dog. loud mouth and a real go getter. He lets everyone know when he hits a trail. I've only had him on coons but will start him on cats this winter.

Is this the same Merchant line that produced Ballin Barney- that was the start of the Bally walkers here in Michigan?

I have hunted dogs out of both strains, they both have their good and bad traits. Compareing the two would be like compareing apples to oranges. There is no one line that has everything, or atleast that I am aware of.

Your probably not going to pound out a two day old track with a treeblaster pup.

Your probably not going to blow the top of a tree out with western bred dry ground pup.

But, there is exceptions for every rule.......

We own Yadkin River Blaster who is directly off Merchant Tree Blaster and we own two male pups out of our cross with our female and Y.R. Blaster's brother Edds White Oak Blaster that passed away last year. Both have super mouths and are proving to be good track dogs. We also have a female our of Y.R. Blaster's sister Edds White Oak Bonnie. She is loud independent young hound that is coming along nicely. Very happy with young dogs that are grand pups to Merchant Tree Blaster.
