Riverbottom, I do agree with you some were not known to be as cold nosed as others. I have found the more the clover you pull into the breed the less nose you get. Many are breeding Clover dogs to get to the Bozo.
The Bozo I am after has the nose, but not only the nose to cold trail and really grub on an old track but one that will catch the game. Must have a brain and be able to pull his head out of the dirt and drift a track and be able to run it hard. I do not want a track to track dog that takes all day to work a track and move it as fast as I can walk.
I am after the perfect dog. Nose, coldtrail, speed, brains and tree. A;sp a must is a handle on the dog.
I have not tried the Coma line but I have heard alot of good about it and some day I might try it but for now the Bozo dogs are doing it for me. If I'm not mistaking the Coma line goes back to Bozo or Clover and Lipper?? And I have had both. Had a pup directly out of Lipper and a Lipper Granddaughter.

Well thats cool

Its pretty easy for a guy to go buy a dog that "does it" and talk the talk, but to make your own and have them turn out has to be even more rewarding.

Lots of guys, me included, wouldnt catch sh*t if it werent for the guys taking the time and interest to do that.

Coma dogs tend to be a bit on the houndier side, and colored up a lot better than Clover. They tend to run on the mostly bawl mouth side. My Aspen dog, her sire, her littermates, and a couple other Coma dogs out this way couldn't be more consistant. I really like the brains they have, a good handle, and one of the less trashy lines (not hard headed). They tend to be bigger (leggy) so in a flat out haulin jumped race, they may not be the lead dog every time, but they will be at the front, and I never used to be a fan of cold nosed hounds, but my female can run a bad track as fast as she can run jumped one. She might not be the most stand out dog, not "flashy", but when the going gets tough, you see who really does the work.

She could be a better rig dog. Very accurate dog, but not a tree huggin 100 bpm dog. She was slower to tree (10 months, in the wild on coon) but was making races and at the tree at 4 months old. One other thing some people don't like they are very tight mouthed on the ground, not all, but the good ones seem to be (lol, good to me cause thats how I like em)

Flatrock Coma is a grandson to Bozo and River bend Flag. Stylish Coma, is Bozo on top and bottom.

I will be making this cross this Spring. I can honestly say the Coma line has me pretty hooked. Everytime I turn Aspen loose, I'm impressed more and more, and she won't be 3 until next month. Like I said not "flashy" dogs, you want superfast, superhard hunting, super treedogs, or super cold nosed, you'll probably find it elsewhere. But your not going to find the BALANCE, HONESTY, ACCURACY, or SENSE these dogs have. I'd say those 4 qualities sum the line up well.

The dog I am breeding to is owned by a great hunter, and the only difference between Renegade and Aspen, is his head is darker and he has a set of testicles. These dogs handle by voice command.

Paco, sounds like you know what you want and that is half the battle!

On a side note related to Bozo, my hunting buddy has known Clyde Tredwell for years. Goes down to stay at Clyde's in southern IL every year to hunt and shoot the bull. I have heard lots of stories about Clyde. Tough old guy and a hard hunter. He drove a tank in WWII and was lucky to make it back. Clyde owned Hardwood Bozo and Hardwood Patch. The dog I mentioned above out of Coma came from Clyde. He still hunts those river bottoms down there far as I know.
