Hyper active Walker line

Postby brushcreek » Fri Apr 02, 2010 1:47 am

Just wondering if anyone has a consistent breeding of dogs with these traits. Well the best way to describe them is crackheads. No offense, they are hyper active dogs from pups even up to 3-5 years old. I mean abnormally hyper. These kind of dogs after you correct them and think they might have gotten the point will let you know you havent won the second you turn around. I have seen a line of dog that hase these traits more consistently than any others I've been around and am just wondering if theres anything similar out there. The first time I was around these dogs I hunted a couple of pups for an older guy and I about pulled out my hair handling these dogs. I can now say I have gotten a couple for myself and want to try keeping this blood going. They are walker dogs that go back to some papered dogs but the Guy who's line bred them doesnt care about papers but has a lot of consistency in his dogs. Anyways if anyone knows of a walker line that has these traits and is hell on bears than please let me know, I am very interested in chatting.

I have some that are pretty easy going around the home and handle pretty good, but they are high strung hard hunting dogs. They look for crap to get into. If there is nothing going on, they are gonna make it happen. They aren't so hard headed that they don't learn, but they have to be watched closely. They have no quit, no off button. They tend to make better bear (or deer) dogs. They just have to much go to really hunt them down to run on coon/cat. They can go day after day. As much hunting as you can pour on em, and like you say, they are like crackheads - wanting more. Never a dull moment, but your training is never done. Not for the faint of heart.

I've noticed some lines of Walkers are hyper, but stupid, and without heart behind it.

I'll get an occasional idiot, but they all have HEART. I call it Game Drive.

The line of dogs i'm referring to are very intelligent. I will be honest and admit this line actually had a cattle dog bred to a hound(this happened 20 + years ago) on accident and a pup was kept and turned out to love the bears and was bred back into the hounds because it was a great dog that had more than the others dogs had as far as game catching ability. Like I said this was done years ago and the best was always bred to the best. Meaning the ones which carried these traits better than the others. Anyways I would be interested in trying a pup or maybe just seeing how they act and hunt. I will be going to California in November to hunt bears for a few weeks. Maybe we could meet up. I'll be near Camptonville.

Sounds like some of mine.

Get ahold of me when you come out. We hunt around the Camptonville area at times. I don't live too far away, just on the other side of the canyon.
