i know their is probably alot of different oppinions on this subject but what are some walker bloodlines that are known for their cold trailing ability on big game?

Old Line bred Nance walkers going back to Little Topper have traditionaly been known for their cold trail ability and speed on a track. We use them for bobcats and lions on bare ground.

They are certainly not the only line that exibits this trait but one of the strains that has not been overly bred out to competition type pop up coon dogs.

I also had very good luck with House's Cheif line of dogs and moving up thru the line to Woodscreek Loose Bruce, and Lipper as well.

Some of the Nocturnal Nailor dogs are rumored to be cold trailers as well. I have some expereince with them but not enough to make a solid opinion, but the Yadkin line has provided plenty of big game dogs in the past.



I know that the Hardwood Bozo and Sackett dogs are well regarded for trailing and I own one but I don't have enough expereince to give personal data on this. Spanky knows these dogs very well and I am sure he can give us some sound factual experience on these.

I have to agree with everything Mike already covered with also adding to the mix White Cloud and Washburn. Nailor/Tar Rattler you will find some real nice hounds when you find the crosses on females like

Hardwood Bozo crossed on just about anything has produced there fare share of cold nosed hounds. Desendents such as Stone Mountain Steel, Hardwood Patch, Hardwood Dan, Flatrock Coma and Logans Clover passed this trait on to hounds such as Waltzs Roadblock, Waltzs sis, Wessels Wild Casey, Tonys Clover.

The whole Topper line out of the old Nance blood seems to be very consistent in producing some real nice hounds. Marcus Nance down in Arkansas has/had a male hound he calls/called Shotgun which was Nance breeding on bottom crossed on Wessels Wild Casey, there were some nice hounds out of that male also.

Stay away from the competition blood of today if cold nose is your main focus, not saying one may not pop up out of a litter but it will not be the majority.

The Yadkin River blood is a good choice and this covers Alot of the lines you here about.Nailor was a son of Yadkin Tar Rattler.Rock River Sackett(sackett jrs sire) was sired by Yadkin River Crowder.
Some other good choices are the old House blood, the old Finley River blood as well.The Strawberry Mt blood is good too.

ALOT DEPENDS ON THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE HUNTER AND DOES HE CARE ENOUGH ABOUT HIS BREEDING PROGRAM TO MAINTAIN THOSE QUALITY TRAITS A PERSON DESIRES. MY LINE IS THE WHITE CLOUD LINE I BREED FOR QUALITY HOUNDS. BUT UNFORTUNATELY SOME BREED FOR MONEY.THUS PUTTING ME AT A DISADVANTAGE WITH FINDING THE ONES THAT DO WORK. YOU HAVE THIS IN MANY CASES, THERE ARE STILL SEVERAL DOG MEN OUT THERE DEDICATED TO THE CAUSE. YOU JUST HAVE TO SEEK THEM OUT.I HAVE BEEN WITH THIS LINE FOR TEN YEARS TO SORT THRU THE JUNK AND THERE IS A BUNCH OF JUNK.....
