Is anyone here hunting Washburn's line of walkers? I've had a few in the past. Just curious.

My husband had one. Did not turn out. Seem like nice dogs. She did not get a good start as a pup. I think that may have had something to do with it.

I've owned two in the past...both were good dogs.

I would not hesitate getting another Washburn bred dog....

and that means bred by Washburn. Not many of those left.

My old dog Baron that I gave to a friend in Magdalena to train his pups is out of Boomer and was bred into one of Washburn's females mid September.

I have only seen a few of them and don"t have any opinion of my own on them. I do however have a question for some that have been around them.

What is the usual size and weight of this strain of dogs? I had a guy tell me he has seen some vwery large walkers that have this line in them. The ones I saw were pretty much average 60 or so pounds but he was talkinging 80 pounders. Anybody else see this?

Sorry Mike, the one my husband had was a female maybe 50lbs. Mid size dog. Her Dam was about 50lbs and her Sire was around 60 maybe 70 not in hunting shape..

Most of the male dogs I've seen and owned from Washburn have all been right around 60 lbs.

Thanks for the information. Looking at the breeding behind this line I couldn't see where these giants would be lurking waiting to pop up down the bloodline. I think it is just perception and a lot of folks guess critters a lot bigger than they usually are. One of my Nance males is tall and looks like a pretty big dog to some folks and I even guessed him a bit heavier than he really is. I thought he would weigh around 60 or a little more, but on the vet"s digital scale he weighed 54 pounds. Just has a lot of leg.

I think bobcats are very deceieving for a lot of folks . I hear about 40 pounders all the time, and I do know there have been a few but a lot of the forty pounders really shrink when you hang them on a scale. I have a friend who is a super trappr and he really nails the cats and has for many years. He documents everything in his daily log book. New Mexico and southern Colorado have a pretty hefty strain of mountain cats some even call them Rocky Mountain lynx. The largest male cat he has ever weighed and he has weighed thousands was 41 pounds and he was a monster. The largest female weighed 29 pounds and she was also a toad. My largest ever bobcat is on my mantel and he weighed 37 pounds and he had killed a fork horn mule deer buck and ate off him and buried him just like a lion kill. The tracks in the skiff snow showed a pretty good battle but the buck never made it to his feet and the old tom cat killed him right there. He was a real cat but he had some deer meat in him to boot. I am sort of glad bobcats don't get much bigger than that with that nasty attitude they have they would be killing the cougars or running them off and probably would attack a lot more humans than lions do. LOL!

My 13 month old pup is a cross between a Washburn walker sire; [ J. Porter from Pecos River Nitro x Pecos River Midnight Ruby ] and an english dam from Dave rude's "True Grit" lines.

She's doing well on the coon training and has rigged on bear already. I'm looking to get her started on lion this winter. She is somewhat a shy dog and is not too comfortable around strangers....born that way. I'm hoping she'll overcome her shyness as she ages. She's about 50 lbs now with a hunting weight of closer to 45 lbs.

I have two Washburn pups right now that im working on and they seem to be catching on really quickly and have alot of personality. Both pups are 5 months old and are already trailing and treeing on lion scented critters and coons.

Has any heard how Mr washburn is doing.Haven't seen him in almost a year. Just wondering.
