Leopard curs in or around Wyoming

Postby brandon » Sun Jun 26, 2011 5:34 pm

I'm looking to get another leopard cur pup if there are any around WY from good blood lines. I have a puppy deposit with Randy Oller who has a female I gave to him that he may breed eventually but was curious if anyone around WY had leopards they hunted. I'm usually not interested in older dogs but would be interested in finding out about any locals even if they can't or aren't planning on having pups.

Hi Brandon, I'll check the yearbook tonight when I get home and see if anyone is close to you.

Hi I may have a pup you may be interested in. the mom is a full leopard cur that goes back on a old mcduffy line she is 6 years old and is one of my lead dogs, she is the toughest dog ive ever had you can hunt her in the rocks 10 days straight. she will catch her own lion or bob. the dad is a 9 year old walker been on well over 100 lions can catch his own lion in the dirt or snow. if this interests you give me a call (403) 710-1544 Ken.

I checked the yearbook and no one from WY is registered. Are you close to a neighboring state?

The fascination of hunting cougar with hounds lies in the discovery and unravelling of a complicated trail, watching an honest hound strike out on a track that has been found and read, and finally bringing the animal to bay so that you can see it for yourself---Jerry A. Lewis

There is a guy that lives on Northern Colorado that is on this forum. He has Leopards. His name is Jared Prendigast? Sorry Jared if I spelled your last name wrong.

I've been thinning out my pack of half wits and fighters, I never got out of dogs just wasted some money and a couple years on "started" and "finished" dogs and learned my lessons in the dog trading game. So now unless I've hunted with the dogs a lot and it fits into exactly what I want I'm just starting with pups as it usually turns out better, and the last/only leopard cur i've raised was a pleasure to handle, a good hunter and just made it fun to go hunting. And Tyler for the summer is working for our Dad in Pinedale trying to payoff his medical bills from bull riding and going to college in Sheridan and I'm hoping to keep him out of dogs (again) until he finishes college; so he doesn't end up like me spending 8 years trying to go hunting every day and taking classes on the side. I learned its actuallly cheaper and easier to just go to college and get it over with, but it was fun a time so I'm not complaining. Hope all is well on your end.

The Leopard cur I got from Randy Oller a few years ago was turning into a great dog when I lost him and he was actually brought to me by Jed Prendergrast and I think his dogs are from the same litter.

Brandon, good to hear. I never regret selling Scarlett to Tyler. She was a particular dog and her taking to him straight away made me know I was doing the right thing. You and Tyler are always more than welcome to come hunt with me if you ever get over this way. I hope you find the dog you are looking for. I only have been back into hounds less than a year, but it is like I never left it. Starting over again with a pack of young dogs I know more than anyone it will not happen over night but dedicating so much time to them I will have a fine pack of hounds in the near future. I hope Tyler finishes school as well before getting dogs again. Ozzy was my son Charles hound when he was 16 till 19 when he went off to college. That is one reason it was so special to get Ozzy back. Charles never wanted me to sell his dog, but I was getting out of hounds and Charles was away at school. I told my son after he graduates UW next year and gets to a place in his life when he is able to he can have his dog back. School definitely comes first in my book. Good luck with the dog hunt. I am sure you will find the right one. :D

Thank you for researching for me I really appreciatte that!!!! I got in touch with Ken Schmitt and am going to try out a pup from him. If you are ever in Wyoming's bighorn basin look me up we'll find something to chase. Thanks again for your time.

I may have to take you up on some hunting this winter or you can swing over to this side of the mountain and we'll chase something over here. I promised the girlfriend a cat this winter and if I don't make good I might get the boot ;) but you're welcome here anytime. I've been running around lysite and copper a little bit the last couple of years and haven't been seeing much for big cats but I know of a couple females that stick to some pretty small areas and can give the dogs a workout most days.
