I was given a leopard cur a few years ago and he was by far the best dog I ever had anything to do with he didn't have much trouble getting cougar up and straighten out the race fast.....it was a bit surprising to see how far off the track he would drift somtimes.

The catahoula is not a very good nosed dog and would in general never make a catdog, The leopard hound ( originaly cur) has much hound blood in it and has a 10X better nose.

They often get confused but are not the same dog. There origin is close and the leopard hound carries catahoula blood that cannot be denied

waylon, not all the lepoards out there are "hounds" now, the ALCBA Registry is still alive and well. I for one will NEVER call my CURS, hounds.

Sorry i didnt mean to sound like i was saying all them are hounds now. BUT we both know there breeding more hound in them then they had in there origanal state.

I have had the pleasure of hunting a few for other guys back when they were all called curs and had one i hated to give back but i couldnot afford to even think about buying him and i needed my paycheck for working him. He was one hell of a dog ( i did however not stop him from getting into the pen one night with one of my best catahoula females i had then, ) made some good colder nosed hog dogs but all of them were open mouthed and we sold them off one by one to coon hunters who liked the closer hadling hoter nose that the catahoula put on them, but ALL of them would flat a** hunt and winded like a champ, thats the thing i loved about them most, man they would stand straight up on there back legs sometimes and bolt out ahead about 2 or 300 yards and get treed quick or bayed depending on what we were hunting, plus not one of them ever ran a deer on me, not saying the breed wont but the ones i worked didnt

I've been running Leopards on cats for about eight years now. I think that the good ones can get a cat jumped as well as any hound and put an end to it as good as the mtn. curs. That is saying a lot.

Fred,

There is not one single living Leopard today that does not have any of the other six hound breeds in it. Conversley, I think folks would be surprised to find out how the Leopards have influenced the other six.
