have any of you had luck with or known of curs that will hunt and bay game as well as cattle? are there certain lines that produce more of these dogs?

Mt. Curs & Catahoulas would be the first to come to my mind for working cattle and running game. You will get a better nose from the Mt.curs go to www.kemmerhaters.net or www.predatormastersforums.com someone at one of them will have what you are looking for. The Striker bred Mt.curs will do about anything you teach them the Fry family breeds them for running & decoying smart dogs I would lean to them.

i have several dual purpose cats and a hound cat cross or two that i've used it's not so much the breed as the dog it's self gotta be super inteligent and know what you're doing and when . if i'm huntin hogs in cattle country the dogs gotta be smart enough to know i'm hog huntin not cow punchin . putting on the cut collar usually does it for me . i can allways holler at one to leave the cows alone ,but, if we cow huntin and a hog bust up gotta go catch a hog ! but you know i've never minded that too much usually if i have a dual purpose in mind for a dog it stays in the house with me so that we learn each other VERY WELL . hope this helps and good luck

My ridgeback does both. Was raised by another family and when i got her at 2yrs old she had never seen a cow or racoon. She caught on really quick. She works both ways very well now. Historically these dogs were expected to be an all around type frontier dog, livestock,hunting, protection.

I keep the Kemmers that are Stryker bred. I hog hunted with them in OK from mule back and rode right through cattle and they didnt trash. Had a neighbors bull get loose and I have a gathering pen/load chute here and have messed with cattle from time to time, a male in particular took to cows and in the right hands could have been a 1/2 assed dog. They have a brain and if trained know what you want them doing . They aint bad at treeing game either lol.

Pics were taken here in S.E idaho mtns where we run our cows. Dog in my pics is my 2 1/2 yr old ridgeback. She works well for me here on the farm. I don't hunt enough yet to justify feeding/having a single purpose hunting hound. A mtn cur sounds like another great dog that could earn its keep. Do u ever have pups? How cold are there noses?

I have pups time to time. There noses are not what i would call really cold but they get good with age and use.
