HAGAR THE HORRIBLE

And not the comic strip.
As some of you already know our late benafactor Zeus blessed me with this fine young hound. He is a true western big game hound with his foundation traceable thru ranch records back to the hounds of the one and only Ben Lilly. He is a powerful moving machine 80 pounds of rawbone muscle, redtick hide stretched over a perfect frame. His bellowing bawl mouth will shake the ground, and his tree bark can be heard for miles. He is now registered Majestic thanks to Steve Morrow and their fine group. His first and only litter of pups are on the ground and now approaching a year old. Reports at seven months found these houndy redticks trailing lions for many miles locating and treeing with the older dogs and fighting with grit and style. These dogs make bear , and jaguar dogs! They will stand their ground!

The reason I am posting this is I feel this hound has somthing to offer the big game world that has not been very abundant and still isn't. He came from the roots and the ground up . I have no qualms as you know with coon hounds that become and produce good big game dogs. Why should I I own a bunch of them . But I think the standard was set a long time ago and we have been trying to maintain or even attain it for years.
So I am not standing this dog at public stud, but I will via e-mail or written mail ( no phone calls please) correspond with truely interested hunters who might have a female that they think would compliment and possibly produce when bred to this dog. I know it is all a gamble if you are not line breeding, but you have to start somewhere. I already have one proven cross and that is from dogs I have been personally hunting and breeding for several decades.

So ponder it, come watch him and hunt with him. Poetry in motion for sure and still can turn it up to over 30 MPH. Heat doesn't bother nor does cold. Gentile as a lamb, but will not be pushed. A true charmer. All breeding done at my place and no shipped semen at this time.

WOW! Sort of made me feel funny reading that. How fast time flies by and how quickly things can change.

There is some lyrics in an old song that are so true.

ENJOY YOURSELF,IT'S LATER THAN YOU THINK

I thought I'd post a little proof...this is my daughter of Hagar, I call her Scar. She is Currently 11 months old, made her 1st lion tree at 5 months of age and has never looked back. Trailed, treed, and located her first bobcat at 6 1/2 months old. She will methodically trail a cold track, smoke a hot track, fight on the ground, or sit back and tree- whatever the situation calls for. Deep bawl on trail, relentless in a ground fight, chop growl under treed game. All this before her 1st birthday. Here is a puppy photo, a recent photo (taken with a shaky hand), and one on the chain.
All the best, -Ethan

Who is the mother to your Haggar pup Ethan? Did that dog come from Chris Todd?

She did come from Mr. Todd! The mom is Misty, who I believe is a 6 or 7 year old hound.

Great! keep us posted on how she does. I like that blood and wouldnt mind getting a pup in the future out of hagar and maybe another nice Terrell Shelly female.

cool, I've been running her on a lot of barn lions lately, and she has done real well on the dirt. Up until now, all of her cat experience has been in some sort of snow- ranging from fresh to super hard crust, and patchy.
I forgot to mention she is very tough footed, has good bone, and joints. Besides all that she is catty in the rocks and cliffs.
And a darn pretty dog too!
