majestic speed

I know every hound is different but how fast do majestics gerenelly work a cold track, they aren't super slow are they? I'd like to some for a one or two dog bobcat pack
I can't speak for all majestics but I can speak to the assumption that the old strain cold nosed type dogs are slow on a cold track. Good cold trailing hounds out of old strain stock have a different gait than more modern trimmed down coon hound type dogs.This gait along with the natural carriage of the neck and head while traveling allows these dogs to trail a cold track higher than the average hound. Most have seen a hound really down rooting with it's nose against the ground or snow trying to suck up the scent if you will to move it. Good old stock dogs with superior scenting ability usually lower their head into the trailing postion and move off on the track not having to snuff their way along. The get the scent higher and the natural trotting movement allows them to really move a cold track faster than most hound. When they track is moved up to sufficient freshness or the animal is jumped from it's bed then they have plenty of speed to drive it to the tree.The fastest trail houn I have ever seen was a 100 pound red tick who would smoke a pack of walkers on a running track, and when it came to a cold lion track he would just trot off down a track while lessor hound were running around wondering what was going on.
Don't get me wrong there are cold nosed fast trailing dogs in all breeds but I have yet to see hounds that can move a dirty old cold lion track like the old strain lion hounds that have been slected over many decades for this trait.
