Anybody got a good recipe for heart? I'm tired of leaving it on the ground and I've decided to start using it.

Ok I got impatient and hungry.
I sliced the heart up in 1/2" slices, cut the fat, valves off.
I dried it on a paper towel, seasoned it with garlic salt, onion powder and pepper.
I stabbed it all the way across 1/4" apart but only on one side.
Then seared it both sides in olive oil, turned the heat down and cooked it until the juice came out clear.
It turned out pretty darn good! I'm regretting not trying this years ago! I'm now a addict lol.

I've ate it this way my whole life except I marinate it in buttermilk and dip in flour, then chicken fry at about 300 degrees . Nobody told me it isn't good. Liver, Sweet Breads,Mountain Oysters are just a good and brains and eggs ain't bad either.

I don't have a recipe (my dad makes it) but pickled heart is one of my favorite things from animals we get.

Good stuff

My dad and i have eaten every single deer heart that i can remember that either one of us has killed. Usually the same day if not the following morning of the kill. It is a ritual. I love it. Just put your seasonings and flour on it and fry it up. I am sure there are better ways but ill probably cook it like this for the rest of my life. I have even done this with geese hearts.

This is the 2nd heart I've ate. The last one was from my elk. The elk heart was kinda tough but this deer heart was real tender and was very flavorful. I'm gonna eat every heart I can now!

What about liver? I saved the liver from this buck. I don't wanna let it go to waste. Do you guys eat your livers? How do you like to cook them?

just fry it up with salt, pepper and sliced onions. Lots of onions! Best if served with fried potatoes. Slice the liver into managable sized pieces for easy and thorough cooking. Tastes a lot like waterfoul.

It does have a strong flavor and evertime I get someone new to try it they hate it. I think it more of a comfort food made at deer camp. But I have always had it made into steaks with liver and onions.

For both heart and liver, I just saute them up in some butter or olive oil, then serve in tortillas with some hot sauce, sour cream, and fajita veggies. If you dont like that, somethings wrong with ya.
