Re: American Blue Gascons
That was a sharp looking hound. When it's going through the dogs I'm watching like ...Blue, B&t, and then WHAM...the dog shows up and my interest peaked!
So, was Scout Bill's top hound?

Re: American Blue Gascons
there is alot of good information and history being passed here I don'tThink all American blue Gascon houndsmen realize some of the breeding and people responsable for creating these hounds I think you need to know two things in order to better a type strain or breed of hound they are as much history on them as possible and a goal in mind for the future there's much more to the big picture but if you don't know these two things then where will you ever get. I think you right lion tracker about the dark trim most French bleus I have seen have lighter trim I think the dark comes from breeding for it and down sizing your hounds will define the trim and make it darker you can see this in the petite bleus

Re: American Blue Gascons
For too many years years people have been blindly following the opinions of inflated ego's, without any real proof of those opinions. Now with the power of the internet, things are coming to light on the actual crosses and breedings that created the finest Biggame Bred Big Blues in America. It's one thing to know the names behind the breedings, but very inlightening to see the pics. Pics don't lie...people do.
As for the rich mahogany trim, I bet Black&Tan.
In a few years here, the DNA labs will have the genetic markers identified to the extent that they will be able to tell you exactly what breeds were crossed to produce your Bluetick.
You have to remember that the Bluetick "breed" has only existed for 50 yrs. What about the prior 100 yrs. or so?

Re: American Blue Gascons
Look at the different tail spot markings in the pics. One dog has the spot at the base and it is bigger. The other dog has the spot on the tail and it is smaller. Also look at the eye patches, one is pale and one is dark. One dog has a spot on the back behind the shoulders and one doesn't. I think these are two different dogs.

All three. I think top dog and bottom dog are the same, middle, different dog.

Re: American Blue Gascons
I think you are right not just the markings are different but I think the hound standing with bill in the middle picture has a slightly larger head as well, I dont think they are the same dogs now the other two pics top and bottom are the same dog you can pretty easily tell they are you can see enough of there body to compare them.

Re: American Blue Gascons
And then the one in the color video clip Steve posted and Brady D. commented on is a third! Some kind of uniformity from F1 crosses, huh?

I think the Different one is the one in the Film with the Big Coon and the 1939-40 Ford, That Hound has a Upside down Arrow Head on the left side and does'nt have the smaller Black band where the tail adjoins the body..
