Lep curs vs hounds
Before I start, I don't want to start a pissing match but just want some opinions. I like hounds and had them for years. I have been hunting with some lep curs and notice that hounds are alot more slower when trailing big game like bears. Hounds takes alot more time to break off deers. What are some of your experiences?

Where did you get your leopards from. The one thing i have noticed with a female of mine is she is the smartest dog i have but i have to watch how rough i am with her you definately can't treat her like a hound.

Re: Lep curs vs hounds
i have just recently went to all cur and from what i'm learning there is no need to be heavy handed, a simple scolding will do. they seem more driven than hounds and not trying to be bias but i think they have a superior intelligence level compared to hounds. thr more you treat them like a pet the better they do. we have deer move across the bottom of the property and when i take my two ten month old omc's out to tree squirrels they have never bothered to bump them or even trail them. and i have watched them go right across where they have been and never stop to check it either. seem to be very loyal and almost one man dogs. i dont have alot of experience with them but i did own hounds for 12 years and i enjoy hunting my curs more in a short period of time than i did hounds for 12 years. of coarse this is only my personal unproffesional opinion and by no means am i speeking for anyone else.

The biggest thing I've noticed with the very few curs I've hunted with is they don't have the endureance that the hounds do one the real long races, an I have yet to see a colder nosed cur. Just my 2 cents. Iam sure there are some good ones out there as there is with almost all breeds!
Turn'em loose- if were gonna loose them mine as well loose them all!

One thing that I don't like about curs is that most dogs are chop mouth. It is hard to follow them when they are on a race. It is nice to have one bawl mouth so you can hear where the dogs are at.
@ outlaw I got mine from lepcur. He run the same line as Randy or greyfox.

Re: Lep curs vs hounds
Just to be clear, are you talking about American leopard cur/hound Or catahoula leopard cur?
I never noticed much difference in them "American leopard cur/hound and regular hounds. Bout every hound I own is chop mouthed.
What few mtn curs ive been around were one man dogs.

You can not get rough with the curs. A good scolding is all they need.
