Michigan bear hunting in trouble

Postby cox » Mon Feb 06, 2012 9:47 pm

Apparently the DNR is kicking around the idea of not allowing you to run your dogs on bear unless you have a kill tag. I'm not sure of all the specifics I saw it on another site but wanted to get the word out. I don't understand what they think they will gain from it because it would do away with pursuit permits Which are $15 a pop. If anyone has more info on this could you help me out here to get everyone educated and let us know what we as houndsmen need to do to stop this before it happens. Thanks

thats not true, that is an idea that they are going to discuss at the bear user group meeting. i don't think we will have to worry about that issue. joe hudson and the upbha and the mbha will be all over that.

this is off the subject, but now if we could get thje mbha to work on getting baiting legal when training season starts, maybe we could save from dropping on sows with cubs ,and wolves etc...just drives me crazy, what dnr thinks it would hurt to bait earlier!sorry just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks for clearing that up jeffbearhunter I just read it wasn't a proposal and was gonna post that here as well. I should have been a little better informed before posting on here but when I hear talk of not being able to run bears I get a little jumpy.

if you get a chance you should attend one of the bear user group meetings, the hound hunters are very well represented but we can always use more. we need all the help we can get to try and keep the dnr in check.

The mbha, upbha and the michigan hunting dog federation keep a good eye on this and that is why we all need to support them by being members of these organizations! They do very much to keep us in the woods and running our hounds.
