We hang our baits in trees from 5 gallon buckets, which in most cases allows a bait hunter to sex his bear before he shoots, as the genitals are exposed to the hunter. We shoot very few females using this technique!!

I know this is off topic but in my 7 seasons of full time guiding in the selway, koocanusa nf, flathead nf, the bob and the scapegoat... never been stalked by a black bear. had some walk towards me till they figured out what i was though, then they hauled butt away from me. as for shooting sows, in perfect world all hunters would use their brains and be a part of actuall management of our critters, but it can be pretty hard to get some folks to use their brains. good job for trying to get the word out in a place that apparently needs it.
