The Idaho fish and game is trying to change our spring training season for bear in the panhandle. They are proposing to take away the July portion of the season for units 4, 4a and 6. These are the best units in the panhandle and the most accessible. IDFG is saying we can just go to units 7 and 9. This is not an option for most guys as these units are a 3 hour drive from most population centers. Unit 9 is also designated roadless which is essentially wilderness and both are loaded with wolves. We need all hound hunters in Idaho to comment on this proposal and voice their opposition. If IDFG gets this started who knows what units they will go after next. Here are the proposals. The comment section is at the bottom of the proposals. https://fishandgame.idaho.gov/content/w ... me-seasons
Here is the meeting schedule for the public comment on the proposals. http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/public/med ... ewsID=6988
Anyone that can come should try and make it and show the fish and game how much this means to us. Thanks everyone!

What is their reason to stop the training season? I live in 8 but mostly hunt in 6 because I can bait and it has a training season.

F&G view the hound hunter as an asset. They don't care what happens to our dogs, or how long the commute is. They will have some propeller head do a study, then make decisions like this. What in there mind they trying to do is harvest more bears in unites 7 & 9 and lengthen the take season in 4 &4a, what they think is we should be happy with the longer take season. They don't take into consideration that unites 7 & 9 are completely Roadless and full of wolfs!! All the studies show is a study decline in bear harvest by hounds men in 7&9 since the early 2000, no S*%t this is a wolf zoo. I care about my dogs, apparently F&G doesn't.
I for one am sick and tired of F&G treating the Hounds Man as a second class citizen. We are one of there best tools they have in controlling predators .
Funding: 10-11% of there... F&G moneys come from excise taxes (Pittman Bose act), about 20% from license and tags, 75% you know who our Uncle Sam the feds. so guess where there allegiance liege!. Just my thoughts

I am not sure why they are doing this all of a sudden. It's probably like lrscott1 said and it's to get more bears killed in 7 and 9. You guys in 10a better watch out. They will make you guys start training in 10 and 12.

You guys are on the right track. This is less about game management and more about making room for wolves. Unit 7 and 9 are almost impossible to hunt with hounds because of the road systems and the existing forest service roads are just becoming more gated every year. Everyone needs to comment on this thru the proposal section on fish and games website. Also flood the regional offices with intelligent questions and concerns. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. This is a foot in the door for all kinds of future problems. Let's stop it now!
