Tell me if there is anything i could do up here. I could get together the names and contact a pile of the houndsmen from this part of the country if that was a benefit in any way. call me at 406-854-9442 if I can help at any level. I would be willing to invest my time and resources to this.

Hey guys though I like the thought of hound hunting bears, i also still enjoy spot and stalk hunting them as much as the next guy. Only because i enjoy hunting with hounds, would i even be open to the idea. I think that one of the biggest steps to consider would be the population of spot and stalk bear hunters. I am not sure they would be open to hound hunters filling up the quota. If it were to be considered by F.W.P, they would bring it up to the hunting public, to try and get an idea of its backing. This is when every houndmen in the state would have to do their part. With out an effort by all houndsmen I feel it would be shot down by the hunting public.
Rep. Kendall VanDyk is a friend of mine who might be a big help in getting this going. You might try contacting him on this issue or pm me and I will get you in contact with him. He has had good luck with issues such as this in the past, or at least done his part to help.

Re: Bear in Montana with hounds????
idaho doesn't use a quota system, Idaho has bait sitters and spot and stalkers as well, lets not shoot ourselves in the foot suggesting restrictions. After a season or two of running bears in Mt the bears are gonna dummy up and then you'll see alot of guys in Mt needing real bear dogs to even consider making a dent, if it's even possible. Alot of the spot and stalkers are gonna want a dogger to run one for them.

The worry of the houndmen filling up the quota on bear is not going to be a problem because a lot of the areas don't even have quota this year. On another subject I talk to our local game warden, he said he was sick of all the trouble bear calls he gets. He had over 50 trouble bear call last summer and fall. He said he would like to see a hound season on bears to teach them alittle respect.

Re: Bear in Montana with hounds????
According to figures I got off of Idaho Fish & Game site an average of 15% of the bears killed in Idaho were with hounds from 96 to 08.
I don't believe we guys would be any competion with spot & stalk hunters as MT would probably have a lesser % because of a lot more closed gate restrictions then ID does.
I think we should try for a kill season and everything but be willing to negioate all the way down to a chase season in a limited amount of units. Just like a kid never asks for $25.00 from his Dad and expects to get $50.00, he will ask for a $100.00 and be happy with $50.00.

I talked to our local biologist and he was neither for or against it.He thought it would result it a qouta system in our area especially if more females were killed.I asked if he thought we could better manage them if we tree them and get a better look and take more boars and hopefully less females. He thought that would be good except there are people who think they need to kill a bear every year regardless if its a sow. He said it already is happening with the spot and stalk hunters. He thought if we want to fight for something we had better be gearing up to protect our lion hunting and our trapping.Because there are groups that are as we speak already united and searching for anything that they can use to shut it all down. That was his thoughts on the whole deal. That being said whatever we do we need to get as many houndmen, trappers, hunters, outdoorsman, farmers, ranchers and any other human with common sense; find some common ground and stick together so we can fight these pricks!
Re: Bear in Montana with hounds????
Beezo you hit the nail on the head. I was reading the local crap paper the other day and saw a big add in it for the group foot loose. It had a pic of a bobcat in a leg hold trap. There is enough people that see that pic that would love to just throw money away to get trapping band. We do need to stick togeather and finght this crap or we will loose what we love to do. We wont get to set foot in the outdoors we love because they will have us locked out.
I am not that old to this sight, and realy enjoy it most of the time, but if all of us would fight theese tree hugging pricks as much as some on this cite fight each other the animal rights groups wouldn't stand a chance. We need to stick togeather, and at times swallow out pride to do so.

Not to get to far off topic, but the only website I'm aware off against I-160 www.noon160.com has nothing to print out and give the general public (none of the links on there or the MTAs website worked) and the only thing the get involved link did is told you where to send your donation. I seen the anti wacos motorhome at the local grocery store a few weeks back and would of gladly printed off abunch and sat kiddy corner to them handed out. And talked to the people that where coming over to them. Kind of shooting yourself in the foot isn't it?

I was reading the Missoulian this morning and saw the following article which complains about all the bear problems in Region 2. I guess the bears have been wreaking havoc on chicken coups and farmers and the FWP has its hands full. What do you think the FWP officials would say if several well-presenting houndsmen were to contact them and offer services or offer to help them in any way we can? Whether its just pursuit or catch to tranquilize or whatever. Wouldn't that help recruit a few more FWP officials and chicken farmers to our cause?
