Has anyone had much luck jumping bear out of corn fields? If so, how do you do it? We usually walk a couple dogs on leads through it.

I think I would make a loop around the field and when they strike turn em loose, or if you don't have strike dogs look for a track.

All the above or just free cast them in and see what happens. We have taken lots of bears this way. A 658, 545, & a 568 in the last 3 years. Great place to look for the slobs once they quit hitting baits. Farmers are almost always willing to let the hounds in when you are taking crop killers out for them too.

Do you guys find the bears break the field and head for some timber or make loops and end up bayed in the corn?

I have heard of bear doing both. Although it seems the big ones don't like to leave the corn and you end up sending the shooter in.

Most of the time they bust out of corn and look for wood. I have only had a couple stay in and bay. I think it depends alot on the bear and the size of the field. There is nothing more exciting than walking into a bay in the corn....

i agree. the only problem here in ny we do not have a kill season. it makes for some exciting times when you need to go in and get the hounds at a bay in the corn.

in our area they will leave the baits for a while in september and hit the corn pretty hard, farm country bears are fun seem to like to fight a little more, when we go at them we walk the dogs around the perimeter, they usually have pretty decent trails in the long grass if they have been at it for a while... We have caught a few in the corn but where the corn is here its all thick cedar and balsam swamps around it that they love to run through and bay up or tree in, makes for a dirty drag out, i shot a 480 this year out of the corn bayed in a cedar blow down fightin the dogs, took 4 of us and hour and a half to get him out the whole 100 yards to the road.
