I'm looking to see what states you can't run bears in and why the state's say you can't ?
Did the anti's take from you, do you have grizzlies or other indangered species or what ever they have come up with, the reason I'm wanting to know is with the fight over SB1221 the bill claims it's in-humane to the bears and the dogs yet they will allow the state and feds. to still use dogs (HSUS-B.S.) Just want to see what other BS has been used to take running our dogs from us.

we can run them here in Wisconsin but it is a constant battle. Believe me, without the Wisconsin Bear Hunter's Association we would be shut down already. if your state doesn't have something set up to fight this battle, your state is next on the list for them to shut down. they do not care what it takes to get it shut down and money does not matter to them. they have a never ending supply of money to use and will pay off legislatures to get it done. it's a proven fact. I really hope this battle in California is a wake up call for the other states that still have the right to hound hunt because without something in place before the battle begins, you could be in trouble.

We cant do it here in Wyoming.

What reason does the state give for not running bears?

We can run them in Virginia, August throught September, the Kill them durn December

we can run bears here in ny, but only to train hounds. we have no kill season and can only run from july 1st thru sept, 30th. we do get a few nusiance kill permites from the d.e.c though for bears doing crop damage.

We can run them here in Idaho.

In 1996 the WA state voters made it illegal to run bears, bobcats and lions. In 2010 the WA Dept of Fish and Game made it illegal to run coyotes with dogs. We can still run fox (very very few red fox in this state) and we can run coons. On the eastside of the state not a lot of those either.

I heard where Washington is getting back some of the countys, is there any truth to this?

In Maine where I live 6 months of the year the answer is YES it is a 6 week season for hounds
In Kentucky where my son and I still have property there is a short bear season no hounds ,no baiting on a draw .
Personally I still like BC spot and stalk better

No dogging bears here in Montana.... FWP has a STUPID "fair chase" ethics mentality put in place. No baiting bears or using dogs... But then we can run Lions with dogs...???... WTH is that about... whats the difference???
Just about as dumb as the fact that you can hunt over a gut pile from an elk kill... but if you move the guts then its illegally baiting...
Or that you can hunt deer over a food plot or water hole but not a pile of corn or salt lick...
We have so many predators we dont know what to do with them all... and all the state can do is to make it even harder to hunt them??? That I could understand if they were endangered... but thats not the case...
Damn Liberals have infiltrated the FWP ranks and legislation... Literally have ruined our biggest economy here... hunting and hunting tourism... but now we have wolves that cost us money... great trade... some crazy dog loving idiots in new york or LA are all happy that some state 1000miles away has wolves while the people here at ground zero lost their jobs and cant even buy a cow elk tag to feed their kids...
I hope one day we can hunt bears AND wolves with our dogs... And I have just the dogs for the job.

What is the reason that the state of Kentucky give for not using hounds?

You can only use hounds on wounded bears in kentucky. My guess is that they dont have alot of bears... Thats what a biologost told me... but that was 6 years ago... the story was thats why the elk boomed in kentucky and not tennessee, kentucky had way less bears than TN. TN bears killed dang near every calf every year.

I was told last year by a Kentucky Biologist that the aim was to keep the bear population low . Yes Elk calf depradation was an issue but they seemed to be more concerned about deer fawn loss . I know that both Maine and Ky loss of young critters is an issue and quite frankly if it affects the bottom line $$$$ the Deer /Elk bring more $$$ to the State Coffers than a Few Bear hunters would ,sad to say .
