It all depends on what your looking for, if your looking to breed big bloodlines and sell dogs it's easier with pure breds. As far as running game I have a lot more experience owning and being around grade dogs. I have seen grade dogs blow pure's outta the water and visa versa. I would never turn away a dog because of the lack of purity it had. Just as long as it runs and barks :D

Right on bowtech reason asking is my group I bear hunt with never herd of all theses big names , note there all older fellows with no Internet , they all have great dogs been breeding there on stock for years ! But they just cross to a dog they like that runs bears . They don't buy big money pups . I was just wondering of anyone else just crossed a dog to another cause they liked it . I mean up here if it's a cur and they like it they will breed it to there best walker dog. But I've always competition coon hunted so I've always been into the blood lines. I just like the way they get great dogs out of different grade dog crosses and you will find no papers around them .

I hunt grade and registered dogs on bear and coon.I like registered dogs because I have proof of their breeding but I'll never give up a good grade dog for a registered dog just because it has papers.

my only gripe with papered dogs is a higher percentage of culls get a free pass ,because they cost more and have fancy papers.a higher percentage of grade dogs are usually kept more for their performance.whether a houndsman hunts papered or grade feeding the ones that get it done should be at the top of the list.

I run both grade and papered dogs but am leaning more towards grade. Some of my best dogs have been grade. I feel a lot has got to do with the handler then the dog. Keep a dog in the woods and most time they make a good dog..

I only have one papered dog and stay away from them from the most part. If someone can catch more game then my mutts i would sure like to take alook at their line of dogs.

Getting them in them in the woods on good game is key to making good dogs. 2 months a year doesn't really cut it.

The best bobcat dogs i've owned or seen have been grade dogs but every now and then i find a good registered hound .I have One now that i like a lot,so much so that i bred him into my grade line.I hope it clicks.I think the best thing you can do is breed two dogs that catch game.If you're after money best to go with a purebred line.

I figured that.I was just agreeing with a previous post that you could make some money from stud fee's,puppy sales"etc".There are some good registered lines out there for bear.Such as House,Cameron,Hicks,Weems"etc".
